18 year old Ryan Reed from Bakersfield, CA was optimistic about his chances last Saturday night for the SRL Sigma 154. Making his first start of the year on the west coast had Ryan atop the practice charts from the first session. After qualifying a strong 3rd for the 23 car field, Ryan would line up 9th after a 12 car invert. No time was wasted as Ryan rocketed to the lead in the first 12 laps and would prove to be the dominant car leading well over 100 laps. As the race went on it was obvious that Ryan and his JRC teammate, Derek Thorn, were the cars to beat. “My car was incredible, by far the best super late model I’ve ever driven. The long green flag run at the end caught us off guard and we started to get tight and that allowed Derek to track me down.” – Ryan
Ryan has been very busy this year racing on the east coast in select NASCAR east, Whelen Late Models and Super Late Model events. “This was a last minute deal that Jr. Joiner and I put together for Ryan to come back home and race. It’s been a tough year on the east coast for Ryan adjusting to the move, being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and racing a new race track almost every week. The past few months we really started to see the improvement but we had no idea how much until last weekend! We can’t thank everyone at JRC for making this happen and giving Ryan a great car.” – Mark Reed
