SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series ‘Silly Season’ Part II

The second installment of the behind the scene moves among the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series teams as the 2012 season approaches:

• 2010 SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series champion, Jonathon Gomez, will be driving the Heritage Cattle Co. #22 at the 2012 SRL season opener at Stockton 99.

• Dave Byrd is officially out of the seat of the Ken Whalen owned #42, the 2007 SRL champion will reunite with two-time championship car owner Bob Strandwold for 2012.

• Olympia, Washington’s Jared Vorse will be back full-time, but with a different team as Vorse will be part of the Bob Strandwold Racing driver line up in 2012.

• 2011 SRL Victory Circle Rookie-of-the-Year, Michael Sandoval will move out of his family’s #7 car, to the #1 at Bob Strandwold Racing in 2012.

• 2005 SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series champion Eric Schmitt will drive in selected SRL events for new team owner Randy Hedrick. Hedrick recently purchased the “05” team from long time car owner Frank Jordan.

• The 51Fifty Team of Carlos Vieira recently announced they will again run the entire SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series in 2012.

• So Cal’s Andre Prescott plans to compete for the Victory Circle Rookie-of-the-Year title. The sixteen years old driver from La Quinta, has ran Super Late Models at Orange Show Speedway and Toyota Speedway at Irwindale.

• Michelle Nagai will compete in five SRL events in 2012, Nagai and her team competed in three events in 2011.

• 2001 NASCAR Southwest Series champion, Craig Raudman will pilot the familiar Bob Strandwold Racing black #2 at selected events in 2012.

• Colton, CA’s David Ross plans to step up his SRL commitment in 2012, currently with seven races scheduled, but is working on putting together a full season.
