HAVASU 95 SPEEDWAY TO HEAT UP A WINTER'S EVENING THIS SATURDAY

The Havasu 95 Speedway will open its spectator gates this Saturday night and treat their fans to another round of their famous winter racing series. The quarter mile, ASA sanctioned, paved oval, located within the Sara Park complex in Lake Havasu City-Arizona, will heat up a February evening with action from their ASA Street Stock, Sam Nichols Electric Bandolero, the Factory Stock and the Goose Team Factory Stock divisions. The speedway will also present vintage open wheel racing action from the Western Racing Association and West Coast Vintage Racing. The green flag falls on the racing action at 6 pm.

The ASA Street Stocks will be making their sixth appearance of the winter racing season Saturday night and will be bringing a skin tight championship points battle with them. Going into this next race, there are only eight points separating the top three drivers in the standings.

Local driver Rick Zirges leads the standings with 238 points based on two feature wins and five top five finishes. His worst finish this season has been fourth. But Zirges only has a two point lead over Rick Bezansen who is a three time feature winner this year. Rick Maddox is ranked third in the standings, only eight markers from the top, based on a highly consistent five top five finishes.

The youngsters in the speedway's Sam Nichols Electric Bandolero division will be making their fourth appearance of the season. The future stars of local racing are also in the midst of a tight championship profile with only 12 points separating the top four drivers. Ricky Lewis, with three feature wins and three top five finishes, leads the Bandolero standings with 148 points. However Lewis only holds a two point advantage over Carter Bahde who has a feature win and three top fives. Blake Rogers is ranked third in the standings, with three top five finishes, and is only 12 markers away from the leader. Matthew Davey, also with three top fives, is still very much a factor in the championship profile and is only 14 points out of first.

In the Factory Stock division Chris Weiss leads the division standings with 312 points based on two feature wins and has a 28 point lead over Chris Blackwell who has four top five finishes and two top tens so far this season. Two time feature winner Cole Loftsgard holds down third in the standings with 274 points.

The Goose Janitorial Supply Team Factory Stocks will be making their eighth appearance of the Havasu 95 Speedway's winter season. This division features one car with a team of three rotating drivers. Team Shake and Bake leads the division's standings with 338 points based on three feature wins. Team Monte Carlo, with two feature wins, holds down second just 16 markers from the top while The Intimidators, with a consistent seven top five finishes, is ranked third with 318 points.

A major highlight this Saturday night will be a special appearance by the open wheel race cars of yester year presented by West Coast Vintage Racing and the Western Racing Association. These cars are pristine restorations of open wheel racers from the 1930's through the 1960's. They will be on the speedway for a special exhibition race. Often referred to as a moving museum, these cars will also be on display during the pre race autograph session where fans can get an up close look at them as well as meeting the drivers.

The Havasu 95 Speedway racing weekend actually begins on Friday night when they host a test and tune session for all of the racing teams from 6 to 9 pm. This test session is free to spectators. On Saturday race day the spectator gates will open at 4 pm with the racing beginning at 6 pm.

Saturday race tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for seniors, 55 plus, along with the military and the handicapped. Kid's tickets, ages six to 16, are $6 while kids five and under will be admitted free when accompanied by a paid adult. Lake Havasu Unified School District students can receive a one dollar discount on their tickets by presenting their school ID card. The speedway also offers a family pack, for $25, which admits two adults and two kids. Fans can also enjoy the amenities of the speedway's VIP section, featuring the best seats in the house, for $25.
