RacingWest: What comes to mind when you think of racing the Las Vegas Motor Speedway?
Darrell LaMoure: Only one measurable memory comes to mind. My wife and I committed to each other there the last time the SW series raced on the Super Speedway! Remember that night? The race was delayed due to a fuel leak on a West car in practice and the track was coming apart. Well no matter what plans you make it's smart to have a back up plan. We thought ahead, having the wedding ceremony at 10:00 PM you would think that no matter what happened we would make it? Yes we made it and are happier then ever today but we missed an opportunity for all our friends in the series to attend this special night, a few did help us get there thanks to Bill and Cheryl. Heck you should have seen the old boy drive that night. November 7, 1998 Shelley and I became one!
RacingWest: Did you have the opportunity to test at Vegas? If so how did your lap time compare to the other teams and did you learn anything?
Darrell LaMoure: No, unfortunately we did not get a chance although a few of the LTR teams did and we help each other with sharing information. We don't always share everything but its better then nothing.
RacingWest: What do you think will be the key to getting around the 1-½ mile oval?
Darrell LaMoure: Walnuts! Lots of them. This series is primarily a short track racing series and the restrictor plate deal is tough. Holding down the pedal all the way around takes a special kind of nut. Second, finding the edge and line will prove to be helpful. We will miss the opportunity to beat Kanke he was the man last time and I'm sure someone will step up and carry that status.
RacingWest: Will you be competing in more than one series?
Darrell LaMoure: No, I believe if someone asked me to drive for them I would have say no. I have learned a ton these past few years running against some of the best teams in the business and know better then to jump in a car without proper testing. So I guess don't ask me?
RacingWest: where will you be staying while in Vegas?
Darrell LaMoure: At a NAPA store or one of the many casinos that assist the NAPA effort! With the help of the McAnally group we hooked with the Gold Coast Casino. Thanks Big Mac.
RacingWest: What extra recreational activities will you be taking advantage of while in Vegas?
Darrell LaMoure: Yea we will play; our plans re to visit the Orleans Motor Sports facility on Thursday I hear this is one of the best race shops if not the best in the West. Also, we will hit all the Gaughan Casinos and spread the wealth. NAPA rules!
RacingWest: Do you have a competitor that you feel is truly worthy of the Sportsman of the Year Award? The Most Popular?
Darrell LaMoure: Me! Why? Simply because of my personality and UN-comparable charm, heck you don't need hair do you? Kidding, our NAPA Auto Parts racing for the Missing effort reach so many, it's all about Good Will and clean safe American living. Now let's look at what this team has done. With as much as half the budget were racing against we still continue to be a contender. Just look at what NAPA has done for us (money isn't everything) confidence is what we've gained from their commitment to our effort! No matter who is chosen I will stand and cheer with pride because after all, the winner of this prestigious award is honored by our peers!![]()
