After the final checkered fell on the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway">The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last October, there has been a lot going on within the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series as it prepares for the first green flag of 2012 at the upcoming “SPEARS MANUFACTURING 125” at Stockton 99 Speedway on March 31st:

• RACE MORE, EARN MORE – The introduction of the new ‘SPEARS Frequent Flyer Program’ was a ground breaking announcement this off-season, offering SPEARS Southwest Tour Series teams as much as $1,000 for starting a main event in 2012.

• SUNOCO DRIVEN CHALLENGE – The Sunoco Driven Challenge brings together the nation’s top five short track series (CRA, ASA Mid-west, PASS North & South, SPEARS Southwest Tour Series) to compete in a national points structure, with the national winner testing for Joe Gibbs Racing at the conclusion of the season.

• NATIONAL TV – MATTV, a national cable network that reaches over 40 million homes across America, will televise the November 17th SPEARS Southwest Tour Series “Sigma Engineering 154” season finale from Las Vegas.

• ALL-AMERICAN 400 QUALIFIER – The winner of the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series May 12th “GoLiveStream.TV ‘Blackjack’ 121” will be awarded an automatic starting position for the legendary “All-American 400” at the Nashville Fairgrounds on October 6th. This one of five events PASS has chosen as part of their “Road to the All-American 400” program.

• NEW TEAM FOR THE CHAMP – Defending SPEARS Southwest Tour Series champions, Jim Pettit II, crew chief Duane Sharp and their entire crew will defend their title as part of the Moeller Bros. #18 team owned by Quentin Bammer.

• NAPA TO SPONSOR RMR RACE – NAPA Auto Parts announced recently that they would become the title sponsor of the July 21st SPEARS Southwest Tour Series 125 lap race at Rocky Mountain Raceways.

• NEW CAR FOR GOMES – 2011 championship runner-up Jacob Gomes will drive a new car out of the JRC shop. Paul Gomes and his crew will continue to be the team at the track for Jacob during 2012.

• MADERA HAS NEW SHINE – Madera Speedway will have a new look in 2012 as Kenny Shepherd re-paved the 1/3-mile oval.

• CHAMPS RETURN – At the March 31 season opening “SPEARS MANUFACTURING 125”, there will be a record five former SPEARS Southwest Tour Series champions competing. (Jim Pettit II, Jonathon Gomez, M.K. Kanke, Dave Byrd, and Eric Schmidt)

• STRANDWOLD RETURNS – Championship winning car owner Bob Strandwold will return full time to the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series with drivers Jared Vorse and Michael Sandoval. BSR will also field cars for Dave Byrd and Craig Raudman in 2012.

• MOST STOCKTON ENTRIES – The March 31st SPEARS Southwest Tour Series Season Opener will see the largest field since Stockton 99 re-opened its gates in 2009.

• MADERA EVENT SPONSORS – The upcoming April 21st race at Madera Speedway will be presented by new series sponsor Melo’s Gas & Gear, and long-time series sponsor AmeriPride Services, for the “Melo’s Gas & Gear 125 presented by AmeriPride.”

• ROSEVILLE RACE – With the support from new series sponsor, West Coast Transmission, the October 13th event is now set at All-American Speedway for the “West Coast Transmission 125”.

• THORN BACK FULL-TIME – Derek Thorn will be back in the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series full-time in 2012, driving for the Four Star Fruit backed Campbell Motorsports team.
