ANTELOPE, California — Cameron Hayley, driver of the No. 24 Cabinets by Hayley/NAPA Batteries Toyota Camry for Bill McAnally Racing, brought home a top-ten finish in the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts “150” presented by Gene Price Motorsports.
Havasu 95 Speedway is a ¼-mile flat short track located just a few miles south of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. This was the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West first visit to the track.
The weekend schedule was hampered by scattered rain showers on race day. The No. 24 Cabinets by Hayley/NAPA Batteries Toyota Camry had one practice session and was seventh quick. Going out second to qualify, netted 15-year old Hayley a starting position on row three.
The 150-lap race got started under cloudy skies before near capacity filled grandstands. During the first caution at lap 22, Hayley radioed in to crew chief Mario Isola that he was happy with the No. 24 Cabinets by Hayley Toyota. Hayley ran in seventh until lap 58 when he gained a position. After a second restart at lap 68, Hayley moved into 4th with his sights set on the front three. At lap 82, the No. 24 Cabinets by Hayley Toyota Camry was in the top-three. During a late in the race caution, Hayley told his team that running on the inside groove was “terrible”. Contact was made by the current point’s leader David Mayhew causing a shuffle of the field. Hayley dropped into seventh. He would gain one position back before he took the checkered flag.
Hayley and the team made a leap in the point’s standing and is now in eighth. And only 14 points out of the top-five. He was the top finishing rookie winning the Sunoco Rookie of the Race award for this event.
“The weekend overall went very well for the No. 24 NAPA Batteries/Cabinets by hayley Toyota Camry team,” said Hayley. “We worked through problems and had a great car all weekend. The No. 24 worked great during qualifying and even better during the race but unfortunately became a victim of the short track and got shuffled back late in the race. We had a lot better car then our finish position but will learn from the weekend and go into my first road course with an open mind.”
The next race for the teams from BMR will be at the road course of Miller Motorsport Park on April 28th. For more information on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, please visit the official series site at www.hometracks.nascar.com/series/kn_pro_series_west.
