"Stockton 99 Speedway also reaches out to help the kids with a dream from Pitman High "
Last Wednesday Stockton 99 Speedway hosted a track test day for NASCAR K&N Pro Series West drivers. A total of seven cars took the opportunity to test on the ¼ mile high banked oval including Three time champion Eric Holmes of Escalon, CA, in the NAPA AutoParts Toyota and his team mate Cameron Hayley in the Cabinets by Hayley/NAPA Batteries Toyota, Derek Thorn in his Sunrise Ford Fusion, team mate Austin Dyne driver of the William Rast Ford, and Jonathon Gomez in his Century Boatland Chevrolet. Jacob Gomes of Manteca, CA, the driver of the Sunny Valley Smoked Meats Toyota was in attendance. Also on hand was 18 year old Jessica Brunelli of Castro Valley, CA, driving the #88 Pick-N-Pull Chevy Monte Carlo in her debut at Stockton.
One of the great stories of the weekend will happen not on the track but in the stands. The kids at Pitman High School are trying to make a dream come true. It seems that California Governor Jerry Brown has invited Turlock’s Pitman High School “Marching Pride” Band to go to Washington, DC, to march in the Fourth of July Parade. The band is one of only ten schools invited in the state, and the only school invited from the Central Valley. Being invited to march in the parade by the governor is a huge honor for the whole band, but with one hundred and forty kids going, a lot of money is needed to be raised to cover the costs of the band’s members. As a result, Stockton 99 Speedway is stepping up to help with that dream.
Band members will be in the stands selling programs at the race and will receive 50 cents for each program sold and the Speedway will also donate 50 cents for each fountain drink sold the night of the race.
The K&N Pro Series is NASCAR’s premiere Home Town Track series that showcases the future stars of NASCAR’s Sprint Cup and is some of the most exciting short track racing in the sport. This action packed series has birthed many of NASCAR's notables such as Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, and Martin Truex Jr., all of whom got their start in racing in the division before moving into the Sprint Cup cars.
Also, on the bill, will be the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Legends of the Pacific.
