ELMA, Washington — No one could have predicted the terrific weather at the Grays Harbor Raceway late last week and hopefully mother nature will cooperate make it two events in a row for the facility this coming Saturday April 28th. In the first race of the season there was some surprise winners and the question will be if the coming race out do the fabulous performances a week ago. Two races being decided in the last five laps, an event when the leader spun while missing a wreck, another where the leader spun and was hit by second place, and the other the leader breaking down under caution.
Classes in action will be 360 Sprints, USRA Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, and Hornets. J.J. Hickle got to the lead in the 360 Sprint feature after the original leader had a flat tire and defending champ Joe German made the right move at the right time to open the season with a win in the USRA Modifieds. Brian Harding led early lost the lead then regained it back for the victory in the Hobby Stocks and Chad Norton won the Hornet feature on the last lap after Austin Carrigan got sideways in the first set of turns.
A treat will be on hand for 360 Sprint Car fans Saturday as former Cottage Grove Speedway champion Brandi Bounds will be coming out of retirement and making her debut at GHR. Bounds is planning a comeback season in which she plans to run the whole ASCS-Northwest Region schedule she has only ran a handful of times ever since retiring after 2008.
Gates open at 2:30 for the pits and 4:30 for the grandstands with racing starting at 6:30. Prices for the event are the following: Adults $13, Senior (62+)/Juniors (15-18)/Military $10, Youths (6-14) $5, Youths (5 and Under) FREE, Family Pass (Two Adults and Up To Four Youths) $30, and Premium Seating $20.
The Grays Harbor Raceway is known for its high speeds and side by side racing as well as its sheer large size. Hosting regular racing action from April to September with 360 Sprints, USRA Modifieds, USAC Midgets, Hobby Stocks, and Hornets as regular classes. In addition the venue will host the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series and American Sprint Car Series-National Tour.
