BANKS, Oregon — After all of the foul weather delaying the start of the 2012 season the Sunset Speedway Park hopes to finally get a race in this Saturday May 5th. The previous Saturday, April 28th, had an open practice take place where several teams broke in their cars on the track located just outside of the city of Portland.
Classes in action for Saturday’s season opener will be Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, 4-Bees, and the Northwest Wingless Tour. Front Gates open up at 3:30 with racing scheduled to start at 6:00 on Saturday night. Admission is the following prices: Adults are $14, Seniors $10, Children (6-12) $5, Children (5 and Under) FREE, and Family Pack (2 Adults and 2 Children) $30.
The following week on May 12th will see the USAC Ford Focus Midgets and the Northwest Extreme Sprint Car Series both debut while the USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and 4-Bees will also be on hand. The 19th will have the Northwest Wingless Tour return as well as the PHRA Dwarfs, Pure Stocks, Womens, and 4-Bees in competition. The month will conclude with a double header on Memorial Day weekend on the Northwest Extreme Sprint Car Series, USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Pure Stocks will be on hand for both days. Tracers will race on the 26th while the Womens division will come out on the 27th.
The Sunset Speedway Park is located just west of the Portland metro area in Banks on the Sunset Highway. The venue is located in a gorgeous small town setting with rolling hills in the background and hosts weekly competition with Northwest Extreme Sprint Car Series, Northwest Wingless Tour, USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, 4-Bees, Pure Stocks, Womens, and Tracers classes.
