STOCKTON, Ca — This past weekend the NASCAR Whelen All American Modified series presented by Star Racing Supply opened the first race of the season featuring twin 40 lap main events at Stockton 99 Speedway. The series is also supported by the Star Grand American Modified series which allows older cars to compete within the series. 13 modified drivers made it to the track for the division opener on Saturday and Wes Miller was the driver to beat. Miller fast out of the box took full control of each practice session setting fast time. Four practice sessions cut the division short of qualifying and trophy dashes which led the division into the first main event.
On the start of the first main event Jay Linstroth jumped to an early lead with Wes Miller in tow. On lap two, Mike Regglman and Scott Winters battled for the third position with Winters in getting the spot. On lap ten, Nik Romano and Star GAM driver Nick Lyons each had their fair share of the fifth position as the two swapped potions multiple times with Romano powering to fifth. The top four drivers, Linstroth, Miller, Regglman and Winters were all spread out by at least a car length or two maintaining solid positions. On the last lap Miller on the tail of Linstroth moved to make a pass on Linstroth for the win and beat lindstroth to the checkered flag capturing the first 2012 Whelen All American Modified victory. Followed by Jay Linstroth, Mike Regglman, Scott Winters and Nik Romano the top five.
PJ Pedroncelli led the field to the second feature and took the early lead. Star GAM driver Nik Lyons jumped out to second on the start however Scott Winters stole the position early leaving Lyons to battle for third. It took Jay Linstroth only three laps to jump three position and end up in fourth on lap four. The first main event winner Wes Miller started 8th and was slowly picking off drivers one by one to catch the lead pack on lap nine for fifth. On lap 13, Winters stole the lead from Pedroncelli. Lyons and hard charger Miller battled for third swapping positions until Miller landed the third spot on lap 17. Tough break for Leader Scott Winters as he suffered a DNF handing the lead over to Pedroncelli on lap 18. By lap 19, Miller had moved into the second position charging for Pedroncelli. Miller not wasting anytime made the move for the lead on lap 21. As laps began to wind down Pedroncelli battled hard for his second place run however he slowly fell back to sixth. Wes Miller ran to his second consecutive Modified victory with a 1.826 lead over second, Jay Linstroth.
