Oh What a Night at Spokane County's Super Oval

Oh what a night of racing action at Spokane County’s Super Oval, Appleway Parts Center ICAR Late Models opened up there 2012 season with the best racing action fans have seen in quite some time dueling side by side bumper to bumper pure excitement this Saturday night. Opening events with the 95.5 KPND Hobby Stocks put on a great showing of cars and a spectacular 20 lap main event with just one caution taking place after just 2 laps into the main event. Vance Reynolds making his return in the hobby stocks nearly sweep the evening of all events just coming up shy of the top qualifying spot. Reynolds sweep the evenings racing events and starting near the rear of the field and make his way to the front and take the hobby stock main event opener.

Motion Auto Supply Bump to Pass drivers once again thrilled the crowd of nearly 3,800 with a heat race bowling match were drivers pushed a old road runner as the bowling ball into a set of barrels made into pins. Daryl Carillio finished on top at the end of the evening for the bumpers.

The Appleway Parts ICAR Late Models opened up with some of the best and most competive qualifying this evening as Dave Garber and the #93 Pontiac Grand Prix set a new track record during qualifying. Trophy dash events turned out to set the excitement for the evening as Ricky Nelson and his #43 jumped out to lead and never look back at the field for their first dash of the evening. Things really heated up and set the tone as Andy Brown driving his #41 Chevy with a brand new crate motor supplied by Appleway Parts Center made his way to the outside and racing defending series champion Blake Williams for four solid laps of side by side door to door racing with Williams taking his Ford Fusion to the winner circle by just 7 1000ths. It was like he shot heard around the world as fans did nothing but talk about the upcoming 75 lap main event.

The field of late models lined the front stretch for driver introductions and you could just taste the adrenaline in the air as fans and drivers waited for the drop of the green flag. Starting on the outside pole Garrett Sawyer driving his #22 Chevrolet immediately jumped out to the lead right at the start of the 75 lap main event. Sawyer remained up front but not long before Williams took his Ford to the front and the young drivers put on a show for the crowd for the first 5 laps before Williams took the lead away from Sawyer. With just one caution that took two cars out with serious damage Williams and Sawyer traded bumpers and door panels for the next 12 laps. While the two young drivers competed with each other this gave time for two veterans to make their way to the front, Dave Garber #93 and Andy Brown both put pressure on Williams and Sawyer and heat up the competition. Williams held his lead for 59 laps before Brown took control of track like it was a piece of his own backyard and drove superbly for the remaining 11laps and take home the main event win in front of Appleway Parts Center guest that surely made a series sponsor proud. Congratulations to Andy Browns team #41 and all the employees of Appleway Parts Center on a fabulous fist win to the season.

Next Racing Action Friday May 11th as the Zips Pony Stocks Road Runners and Motion Auto Supply Bump to Pass return, racing action at 7:15 gates open at 5:00pm see everyone at the track.
