PRUNEDALE, California — Jim Pettit II and his Moeller Bros/HUR #18 team scored their second consecutive SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series top three of the year with a third place finish in Saturday’s “GoLiveStream.TV Blackjack 121” at Las Vegas Motor Speedway">The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
"With about 35 to go the car got tight, which we later found out we had a right rear going down. I had my hands full and I’m happy we held on for third."— Jim Pettit II
“It was a good weekend for us, we qualified well, led early and finished third,” stated Pettit.
After starting fifth, Pettit had moved up to second by lap 7, two laps later he moved past Jason Gilbert for the lead.
“After we got up front we just wanted to be sure we had something at the end. I saw Derek (Thorn) coming and then Jonathon (Gomez), but we had no plans to race hard that early. With about 35 to go the car got tight, which we later found out we had a right rear going down. We had a great battle with M.K. (Kanke) and Jason there late in the race, I had my hands full and I’m happy we held on for third.”
Pettit is currently fourth in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series championship standings, just 26 points out of the lead.
“Each race we have been gaining a better understanding of our new car. Duane and the guys worked really hard making a lot of changes all weekend to help us better understand what the new car likes and how it responds to the changes.”
Next race for the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series will be at Stockton 99 Speedway on Saturday, June 9th. For 2012, Moeller Bros., HUR Engines, Golden Gate Petroleum, BizzwithBuzz.com and Swift Springs support Pettit and the Quentin Bammer #18 team.
