STOCKTON, California — With the third race completed, the division heads into the fourth event providing side by side racing action and putting on a show for the fans. The Norcal Focus Series continues to impress with fast close racing and an even playing field putting on some of the most exciting racing at the Stockton 99 Speedway. Saturday night the midget field were separated by .095 seconds in lap times throughout the race.
With a full invert from the season’s third feature finishing order, Molly Helmuth and Ricky Bowers led the field to the green flag with Bowers jumping to an early lead while the remaining drivers all battled for positions. Peterson, starting last, had a great start working his way up to third on lap one. Peterson needed to catch up to the leader, Bowers, otherwise Bowers could run with the win. By lap two, Peterson had picked up second place and had his sights set on the leader and closing in for the top spot. Bowers knew Peterson was coming after him and managed to run a fast smooth racing line to hold off Peterson for a few laps. By lap six, Peterson looked to the inside of Bowers to steal the lead. Sheldon Didinger had a tough start but managed to pick up third on lap six to join in on the lead battle. On lap seven, Tyler Edwards passed teammate Molly Helmuth for fourth. As lap began to wind down Shledon was working on teammate Bowers for second. Although Sheldon wasn’t quite ready to make his move, on lap 26, Sheldon finally made a successful pass on Bowers for second and ran with it to the final lap. Garrett Peterson raced on to a 2.442 second lead and a clean sweep of the race day to his fourth consecutive USAC NorCal Focus Midget win in 2012. Sheldon Didinger 2nd, Tyler Edwards 3rd, Ricky Bowers 4th and Molly Helmuth the top five.
“We were fast in both features but the car seemed to change towards the end of the races. I learned a few things that I could have done better and will be ready to go in a few weeks. Thanks to all my crew for their help throughout the weekend,” stated points runner up Ricky Bowers.
Next up for the drivers is race number five and six “Star Showdown” at Stockton 99 Speedway June 2nd.
