LEBANON, Oregon — For fans that have waited for racing to begin at the Willamette Speedway they no longer will have to wait as this Saturday, May 19th, looks to have a fantastic weather forecast as well as a large group of cars racing making the 2012 season opener. After all of the cancelations and rain outs the campaign will begin Saturday and the track has already had one practice under its belt which took place on May 12th. Unfortunately on May 18th the Karts were supposed to open their season up in the infield track but that has been cancelled and will delay the start of their season to Friday June 1st.
Saturday night May 19th will be the first race of the season which will feature DirtCar Late Models, USRA Modifieds, Sportsman, Classic Sportsman, and Mini Trucks. Regular admission to the event is the following prices: Adults $14.00, Seniors (62 and Over) $12.00, Children (12 and Under) $6.00, and Pit Passes $25.00. The pit gate opens at noon while general admission gates open at 2:00. Qualifying is scheduled for 3:00 while Racing should be getting started around 6:00.
In the 2011 season opener on April 23rd eventual champions Rob Mayea (Late Models) and Dustin Dittman (Modifieds) won their features in their respected classifications. Danny Altom captured the first Sportsman feature of the year and Dave Kingsberry won in the Classic Sportsman.
The Willamette Speedway has operated since the 1960’s and has been regarded as the “Late Model Capitol of the Northwest” for many years and is anxious to host fans with the vast upgrades and improvements done over the 2011-12 winter. The venue will host the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series and the American Sprint Car Series-National Tour along with weekly action comprising of DirtCar Late Models, USRA Modifieds, Sportsman, Classics, and Mini Trucks.
