Armed Forces Night at Evergreen May 19

MONROE, Washington — Saturday night May 19 at Evergreen Speedway it will be the annual Armed Forces Night at the Races with all active and reserve military in uniform admitted free. The fast night of racing will feature the Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stocks, Foster Press NASCAR Mini-Stocks, Northwest Pro 4 Truck Tour, Buzz Inn Steakhouse Stinger 8’s and Interstate Batteries Hornets. The spectator gates will open at 4:30 and the racing begins at 6pm.

Even though it is early in the Street Stock season a great point’s battle is heating up for the 2012 season championship. Leader Jim Foti has started his season off with a second followed with a win to hold an 8-point lead over Kenny Erickson. Third in the points is Jeff Miller who is 13-points out of the lead. First week’s winner Steve Ptacek is in fifth after a mechanical problem forced him out of the last race.

The Mini-Stocks return to action and their chase to the championship is another close one. Jon Roberts holds a 2-point margin on Mark Creager who has a 1-point edge over Chuck Richard. The top six are separated by just 11-points. Mike Hessler, Andrew Shukar and Michael Fritz hold 4th through 6th.

Sean Peters is going for the 3-peat after winning the two opening races of the early season for the Stinger 8’s division. Peters holds a 7-point lead over figure eight veteran Ben Chandler. Chandler has a 1-point position lead over Josh Young.

Veteran Hornet division racer Jaime Corbett leads the swarm by 7-points. He is being pursued by a group of young drivers. Fourteen year old Chad Fitzpatrick is second, eighteen year old Josh LaPlante is third and nineteen year old Brent Crise is fourth.

The traveling Northwest Pro 4 Truck Tour heads to Evergreen for the first of three trips this season. Kevin Bell is the point’s leader for their respective championship. Bell won the tours opening race at Yakima Speedway on May 5th. Local driver Doug Wilkinson is second in points and another local Aaron Greene is third.
