ELMA, Washington — With three races in the 2012 season the Grays Harbor Raceway will host their first two day racing event of the season Saturday May 26th and Sunday the 27th for the Spring Showdown. The weekend will be the 2012 season opener for the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region with the USRA Modifieds and Hobby Stocks racing both days as well.
In local 360 Sprint action there has been two different winners in as many races. J.J. Hickle stunned the crowd on the late April season opener for the victory after Mitch Olson lost air pressure in his right rear tire. In the most race veteran Rick Fauver held off defending champion Henry Van Dam for the victory on May 19th.
The USRA Modifieds have not bored race fans at all this season. In three races there have been two different winners and two races decided by green-white-checker finishes. Scott Miller is on a bit of a hot streak with two straight victories while defending champ Joe German is the only other driver to have won this year.
The Hobby Stocks have only had two races this year and after a week off the class is ready to get back in action. Briand Harding was the big winner at the season opener in April and Zack Tole won the last event the class was in action on May 12th.
Gates open at 2:30 for the pits and 4:30 for the grandstands with racing starting at 6:30 for both days. Admission for this weekend’s events is the following prices: Adults $18, Senior (62+)/Juniors (15-18)/Military $15, Youths (6-14) $7, Youths (5 and Under) FREE, Family Pass (Two Adults and Up To Four Youths) $40, and Premium Seating $25. There will be two day passes also available for Adults for the price of $30.
The Grays Harbor Raceway is known for its high speeds and side by side racing as well as its sheer large size. Hosting regular racing action from April to September with 360 Sprints, USRA Modifieds, USAC Midgets, Hobby Stocks, and Hornets as regular classes. In addition the venue will host the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series and American Sprint Car Series-National Tour.
