STOCKTON, California — This past weekend the NASCAR Whelen All American Modified series presented by Star Racing Supply kicked off the first leg of the Tri Holiday Classic race in honor of Memorial Day weekend featuring a 60 lap main event at Stockton 99 Speedway. The series is also supported by the Star Grand American Modified series which allows older cars to compete within the series. Scott Winters Dominated all three practice sessions posting fast times setting himself as the top qualifier for the Qualifying run down. Followed by No. 45 Rich Lindgren, No. 57 Wes Miller, No. 63 Mike Reggelman and No. 25 Jay Linstroth the fast five. Reggelman started pole for the trophy dash and led the entire four laps to the trophy dash victory. No heat races were scheduled as the division jumped right into their 60 lap main event with an invert of six.
With the invert, No. 98 Keegan Walmer and Jay Linstroth were set to lead the 18 car field to the green flag. Linstroth jumped to an early lead as cars mid pack caused a huge wreck in turn two bringing out a red flag. Tough break for three cars No. 98 Ryan Stepps, No. 3A Dave Stricklin and Keegan Walmer as they all suffered terminating damages. Walmer and Linstroth had hit tires entering turn one which broke Walmer’s right front suspension ending his night short. After the track’s safety crew quickly cleaned up the wreckage racing was under way with a complete restart as the field never completed lap one. Linstroth and Reggelman were set to restart the field and Linstroth again jumped to an early lead No. 57 Wes Miller followed Linstroth’s pass for the lead. On lap one, a wicked fast Winters in fourth passed Reggelman for third setting his sights on the leader. Lap three, Linstroth had company from Miller allowing Winters to catch up. By lap seven, the top five cars were all nose to tail around the track battling for positions touching each other’s bumpers. On lap 15, an eager Winters tried to make a bump and run on Miller in turn two, however Winters bump was a little hard which sent Miller spinning. Stockton officials sent Winters to the back for rough driving to work through the field again. Linstroth and Reggelman set the pace for the restart and a powerful Linstroth took the early lead once again. However, not too long after the resart Reggelman jumped to the inside of Linstroth in turn four and stole the lead on lap 18. By lap 20, Reggelman had picked up five car lengths over Linstroth. On lap 26, Winters and Miller who had to restart at the rear of the pack were antsy picking off positions one by one and were now in the 9th and 10th positions. On lap 37, Miller and No. 2 David Crouch battled side by side for the sixth position and the two collided in turn one sending Miller into the wall. Reggelman and Linstroth restarted the field and Reggelman took the early lead. On the restart in turn two, No. 62 Alan Rider climbed the left front wheel of No. 20A William Camera ending both their nights early as well. Reggelman and Linstroth set the restart as the two raced side by side trading rubber as their tires touched and sent Reggelman into the front stretch wall and Linstroth barely brushed the outside wall gaining the lead. Both Linstroth and Winters led the field to the restart and the two battled side by side for two laps and Linstroth powered ahead of Winters to gain the lead on lap 40. By lap 43, Winters began looking to the inside of Linstroth but Linstroth would close the door. As Winters had already been sent to the back of the field for rough driving and had made it through the entire field, he was very cautious as to when and how he was going to make his move on Linstroth and kept it clean. On lap 56, a loose Reggelman spun by himself in turn three creating a caution that Linstroth was not hoping for. Linstroth had to strategize how he was going to maintain his lead over Winters who has been fast all day on the restart. As the 25 and 24 set the restart Linstroth had just enough motor to power over Winters and took the early lead for round one of the Tri Holiday Classic Victory. Followed by Scott Winters, Rich Lindgren, Wes Miller and Rick Anderson the final five.
