LOOMIS, California — Memorial Day Weekend Scribner Motorsports made the haul south to central valley’s most prestige race track in Stockton, CA. Leading up to the first annual Tri Holiday Classic round one, Chris Scribner had never turned a lap on the ¼ mile high banked oval at Stockton 99 Speedway. With no on track testing or setup experience for this track Scribner was determined to perform well.
The NASCAR Late Model division was only set for two practice sessions and no qualifying. The last practice session was used as the qualifying line up for the main event so Scribner needed to be in the game. In the first practice session, Scribner was 15th fastest out of 20 cars as he was learning the tracks racing line. By the second practice, Scribner had turned the fourth fastest lap with a time of 14.200 seconds and was .021 seconds from the top qualifier. Next up, an excited Scribner was set for the trophy dash sitting in the pole position. Scribner ran to a solid second place finish.
Scribner, nervous but anxious for the 100 lap main event started third in the feature lineup. On the start of the main event Scribner followed the leader through turns one and two to claim the second position. Scribner kept up with the leader to analyze the leaders every move so he could make the right pass at the right time. For the first 50 laps, Scribner followed the leader closely on their rear bumper until a caution was thrown on lap 51. By lap 54, the field was ready to restart the race and Scribner started outside front row. Scribner entered turn one even with the pole sitter, the leader pushed up the track in front of Scribner to maintain the lead. As the drivers entered turn three Scribner drove his machine hard down to the bottom to make the move for the lead. Scribner got out front in clean air for the final 45 laps. Chris Scribner went on to collect a successful first time victory at Stockton 99 Speedway.
