
MONROE, Washington — Evergreen Speedway’s biggest event of 2012 the Coors Light Summer Showdown presented by NAPA Auto Parts on June 28-30 is getting bigger by the day. Driver commitments for the $60,000.00 plus Super Late Model 200 on the BIG 5/8-mile paved oval are pouring in from all over the West Coast and Canada. The three day extravaganza kicks off on Thursday June 28 with a practice session for the Summer Showdown Super Late Models in conjunction with the Coors Light Fan Fest and free entry for the fans featuring: a Driver Meet & Greet, BBQ, Beer Garden and Live Music and the Richard Petty Driving Experience. On Friday June 29 time trials for the Summer Showdown SLM plus NASCAR Les Schwab Tires Street Stocks, NASCAR Foster Press Mini-Stocks & Outlaw Compacts and Twin 25-lap Qualifying races for the Summer Showdown SLM. June 30 Saturday there will be a Last Chance Qualifier Race for the Summer Showdown SLM, Pro 4 Alliance Series, Pro 4 Truck Tour and the Summer Showdown 200. Sunday July 1 is set aside as a rain date.
The latest confirmation is from Upper Lake, California phenom, 15-year old, Jeremy Doss. As of this writing Jeremy has won twice in the 2012 Rocky Mountain Challenge Series. Both wins came at Idaho tracks the first at Magic Valley Speedway and the latest at Meridian Speedway. Running part time in 2012 on the RMCS, Jeremy is scheduled to run full time in the California series called AABLM (Airport Auto Brokers Late Models) where he is now second in points.
Doss will join other young drivers confirmed for the first annual Summer Showdown, Garrett Archer (15 years old), Molly Helmuth (16 years old) and Jessica Dana (17 years old) Each of these under 18 racing future stars have an extensive background in racing all getting their starts in Quarter Midgets. Legends and or Karting at very young ages. To watch these future stars is worth the price of a ticket
Evergreen Speedway NASCAR track championships are highly sought after each season. The Summer Showdown will have three drivers that own 8 of those championships, Naima Lang (3-time track champion), Shane Harding (2-time track champion) and John Zaretzke (3-time track champion). To watch these three is worth the price of two tickets.
Four of the Northwest’s best ever late model racers are going to be at the Showdown. They include: Pete Harding (NASCAR NW Tour Champion and so many wins we lost count), Garrett Evans (5-time NASCAR NW Tour champion and over 300 career wins), Gary Lewis (1- time Evergreen, 2-time NASCAR NW Tour, ASA NW Late Model Tour, ARCA West Late Model Challenge Series champion, 4 time Montana 200 winner, 3 time Idaho 200 winner) and Ron Eaton (4-time NASCAR NW Tour champion and over 300 career wins). To watch these four legends is priceless.
The commitments are coming in every day. With over 40 of the West's best Super Late Model Teams expected, this is becoming the biggest Super Late Model event ever. The payout with $11,000.00 to win, $1000.00 for starting the 33 car field and $500 to those that do not make it out of the Last Chance Qualifier are drawing much attention.
