
The USAC/CRA 410 Sprints came to the Santa Maria Speedway for the first of their two events of the 2012 racing season at SMS. The 410’s run some of the fastest laps on the 1/3 mile clay oval and tonight was no exception. Richard VanderWeerd of Visalia took fast time in qualifying with a fast lap of 14.950. In the main event Austin Williams of Yorba Linda held off “Showtime” Danny Sheridan of Santa Maria to take the victory. Sheridan held on for second with point leader Mike Spencer of Temecula finishing third.

In the Richie McGowan Hobby Stock main event it was defending champion Dan “The Man” Bryant of Templeton who passed Jake Jones of Santa Maria with 7 laps to go to take the win. Recent high school grad Taelor Janes of Arroyo Grande also passed Jones to take second place. Jones finished third.
Troy Medeiros of Arroyo Grande held off several challenges to take the victory in the Toste Grading & Paving Mini-Stock main event. Ed Raines of Santa Maria had the lead for a while and then was a constant challenge to Medeiros but had to settle for second place. John Penaflor of Nipomo fought his way up from 12th to take third at the checkered.
In the Okie Bowl Hardtops vintage series it was Bobby Courtney of Bakersfield who held off all others to win the 15-lap main event. Brad Jung of Bakersfield finished second with Steve Sorensen of Bakersfield taking third.
Next Saturday, June 23rd, marks the 27th Annual Bud Stanfield Memorial with a rare double appearance of both the USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Cars as well as the Super Late Models. Two feature headliners on one race night. They will be joined by the Richie McGowan Hobby Stocks, The American/Enduro Stocks and the Mini-Dwarfs.
