The Willamette Speedway Tuesday June 19th was treated to a huge field of Modifieds for the annual stop for the Wild Wild West Modified Shootout series. It was the fourth consecutive night of action for the tour of the seven scheduled events. The Sportsman and Classic Sportsman participated in a non-points event as the support class at the 1/3 mile oval in Lebanon.
"Altom Wins Sportsman Feature"
Kenny Schrader of Concord, North Carolina swept the nights action after winning both of his heats and the main event. Starting seventh he took the lead from Coburg’s Jesse Williamson for the lead after a lap sixteen restart to lead the rest of the distance in his first race in Oregon.
Jason Beaulieu of Campbell River, British Columbia finished in second place over Jesse Williamson. Californians Kyle Casson of Yreka and Ft. Jones driver Travis Peery completed the top five finishers. The night was full of two heat race sessions which drivers accumulated passing and finishing points. The top twelve were locked in and the top participated in a redraw (results below).
Danny Altom wasn’t the fastest car in the field in the Sportsman/Classic Sportsman feature but he was the leader at the end. Brian Smith of Albany, driving for Glen Hackney, was the car on a mission until mechanical problems put him out of commission. Altom, the Lebanon native, was in the right place at the right time to win his third feature of the season.
Brad Gentry of Dayton would finish in second place followed by Lebanon driver Zach Maurice. The top five was completed with Jeff Rash of Lebanon and Archie Teeples of Colton.
The Willamette Speedway returns into action on Saturday June 23rd for regular season action. The DirtCar Super Late Models will be on hand along with the Sportsman, Classic Sportsman, and Mini Trucks. The USRA Modifieds have been added to the schedule but will not run for points.
