A good crowd made it out Wednesday night on June 20th to the Sunset Speedway Park. A large field of cars was on hand for the fifth consecutive race for the Wild Wild West Modified Shootout and a strong car count filled the pits for the Pure Stock/Street Stock Challenge.
Ken Schrader was the big winner in the Modifieds in his first visit to the Banks bullring. Schrader dominated the field after taking the lead from Alex Stanford shortly after a restart. It was Schrader’s second victory in two starts with the Wild Wild West Modified Shootout.
Kyle Casson would finish in second place followed by Jesse Williamson in third. The fourth place finisher was Travis Peery and Justin Holt completed the top five. Two rounds of heat races were ran with the top twelve in finishing and passing point automatically getting locked into the forty lap feature (see below for results).
Two consolation features ran with the top four transferring to the main event. Monte Bischoff earned the win in the first consolation event while Clint Petty, Sonny Sayre, and Trent Croy also transferred. Robby Ireland was the victor in the second consolation race followed by Kenny Miller, Scott Lenz, and Chris Beaulieu. A last chance qualifier was run with Jeremy Martin and Chris Quinn transferring out of the ten lap event. Getting promoter provisionals were both Craig Moore and Jesse Bailey.
Tanner Baldwin was the big winner in the Pure Stock/Street Stock Challenge. The teenager took the lead after the original leader Phillip Johnson lost control due to a flat tire. Baldwin would lead the rest of the event and hold of the competition for his first win of the season.
Craig Loomis was the runner-up followed by Tony Catalano in third. John Ireland finished the event in fourth place and Kevin Roberts completed the top five. Fast time of the night was Craig Loomis at a time of 15.556 seconds, heat race winners were Mike Mastangelo, Andrea Tardio, and Tanner Baldwin, and Kevin Roberts won the consolation feature.
The Sunset Speedway Park returns into action this Saturday evening June 23rd for regular season action. The Northwest Wingless Tour will be on hand at the Banks bullring and so will Street Stocks, USRA Modifieds, 4-Bees, and the Womens division is also scheduled to be on hand.
