TWIN FALLS, Idaho — After getting roughed up in double mains June 16, this time there was barely a scratch on the No. 61 car at the end of Saturday night’s racing action at Magic Valley Speedway. Making it an even better night, Hannah Newhouse was able to pull into the winner’s circle for her third Commercial Tire Super Stocks main event win of the season.
"I did not want a replay of last week. This time it just worked out to where they all kind of slid downward after they hit in front of me. So I just kept going."— Hannah Newhouse
The green flag fell on the feature division race with Willie Dalton and Jerry Slocum occupying the front row positions. Point standings leader Newhouse and Kris McKean, second in the standings, were lined up along side each other at the rear of the field. Dalton led the first half of the race but was part of the caution flag that came out at lap 20 for a wreck that also involved Kendel Woll, Steve Edens and McKean. Newhouse was able to maneuver around the incident.
“I did not want a replay of last week,” Newhouse said after the win. “This time it just worked out to where they all kind of slid downward after they hit in front of me. So I just kept going.”
After the restart she and Casey Pehrson battled side by side until another caution was displayed when the car of Dan Pehrson spun in turn three. After the final restart Newhouse and Pehrson battled side by side once again but Newhouse would soon become the clear leader. Meanwhile McKean fought with Allen Williams for third with McKean settling into the position at lap 33.
For Pehrson, the second place finish was less than he had hoped for.
“It (the car) worked well for a couple of laps and then it didn’t work anymore, I just can’t figure it out,” he said. “We have been battling with this car – it’s either really tight or really loose -there is just no in between. At least we don’t have a lot of body work to do on it this week.”
Brenden Radabaugh is the Quales’ Electronics Jr. Stingers newest champion. Radabaugh captured the championship finishing 13 points ahead of midseason runner up Hailey Douglas. Justice Coates was the winner of the main event race after taking the lead from Rieley Browne at lap five.
In other action Casey Tillman was the Idaho Legends main event winner after taking over the lead at lap nine. Jeff Peck captured the win in the Magic Valley Pipe Hornets by getting around Lane Walker at lap eight of the 15-lap main event race.
The Stinkin Lincoln and the Tank were both winners after main event doubles for The Car Store Thunderdogs.
