KALISPELL, Montana — A wind driven night of racing was held Saturday night at Montana Raceway Park. Fans and drivers battled the heat during the day and braved the short burst of wind, rain, and lightning that happened during opening ceremonies and trophy dashes. First Interstate Bank presented the nights racing activities that featured the Flathead Beacon Bombers, Don K Hobby Stocks, CHS Legends, and Bandoleros.

Three new young racers took to the track Saturday night in the Bandolero Division. Haedon and Leighlend Plybon and Haylie Mitchell all took their first turns in competition racing. The trio had a great time and had a lot of fun getting started. The Plybon brothers provided some new side by side battles on the track. Brock Denney set fast time for the division. Brock went on to sweep the division’s trophy dash, heat race, and main event beating out his younger brother Bryce. Brock continues his commanding lead of the Bandolero point’s series. Bandolero cars are available if your son or daughter is looking to get started in racing. This division is a very fun and affordable racing division. For more information call the track office.
Tyler Corpron came into the weekend leading the CHS Legend point’s series, but by the end of Saturday night would be joined by another close competitor who is out to knock him off of his first place position. Dalton Halden kicked the night off by setting fast time for this division. Payton Saxton, a driver from Las Vegas, NV made the long drive to compete in the Big Sky State and claimed the trophy dash win. Saxton went on to win the B heat race. Tyler Corpron won the A heat. In the main event a determined Dalton Halden started on the pole with Tyler Corpron starting on the outside. Dave Daughtry and Payton Saxton battled during the main eventually connecting bumpers, which caused the two to fall back in position. In the end, Dalton Halden claimed her first win of the season. Corpron came in second with Saxton rolling in third. Halden’s win ties her with Corpron for first place in the point’s hunt. The CHS Legends will be off until August 4th. Look for this race to be a barn burner, with Halden and Corpron fighting for the top point’s position.
Dustin Martel set fast time for the Don K Hobby Stocks. In the first of two trophy dashes Ed Linn took the checkers. Josh Robinson took the A trophy dash win. Steve Hrisook edged Sam Naldrett to win the B Heat race. Linn beat out Marvin Stone for the A heat race win. In the Main event Linn took the lead early from pole sitter Scott Seltzer. Linn held the lead until an unwavering Marvin Stone challenged him for the lead. Linn fell back to second and then third as Dustin Martel passed to claim second place. Stone raced to his first win in the Don K Hobby Stocks. Martel rolled into the weekend first in points, but with his first win, Stone has setup shop in the lead of the Don K Hobby Stock point’s chase.
In one of their larger races of the season, the racers in the Flathead Beacon Bomber Division were ready to shine and entertain the fans. Kelley Dupuis kicked off his night by setting fast time. Josh Norris won the B trophy dash and Dupuis won the A dash. Troy Pilgram took the ten lap B heat race win and Zack Mongan won the A heat race. All of the drivers were eager to get the 50 lap main underway. Pilgram started on the pole for the main, but was quickly passed by Mongan. Mongan raced for 14 hard laps with Chris Warburton challenging him for 10 laps. Dupuis overtook Warburton and moved to second. Dupuis and Mongan raced hard for two laps before they spun and were both sent to the back of the pack. This set the stage for Warburton to move to first. Bill McCallum moved to second place and Josh Norris moved to third. McCallum tried to keep up with Warburton, but once Warburton was out in fresh air he was unstoppable. Warburton claimed the Bomber 50 win, followed by McCallum in second and Norris in third. Warburton leads the Flathead Beacon Bomber series points by 7 over McCallum.
