The opening night of the Bob’s Burgers and Brew 360 Nationals presented by Goodyear is now in the books with Shane Stewart picking up the preliminary night feature main event win. Forty-eight 360 Sprint cars made up the field easily making this one of the top 360 Sprint car events in the country in 2012.
Starting off with qualifying where Chad Hillier set fast time at 12.008 followed by Mitch Olson 12.084, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. at 12.097 and Travis Rilat at 12.099 the fastest four cars all in the 12 point zero bracket.
Heat races saw the top three cars transfer directly to the A Main. The top three in each heat were Justin Younquist, Brock Lemley and Eric Fisher from heat one. Shane Stewart, Travis Jacobson and Trey Starks from heat two. Heat three top three were Sam Hafertepe Jr., Kelsey Carpenter and Casey Adams. The fourth heat top three consisted of Colton Heath, Travis Rilat and Cam Smith. The fifth and final heat was Cody Ridge, David Miller and Rick Fauver.
The 18 car C-main even was won by Rod Perkins who led all 12 laps. Joining him as the other three transfers to the B-Main were Mike Melwicks, Robby Vaughn and Bud Ashe finishing second, third and fourth.
The 15-lap B Main event was won by Mitch Olson who led from flag to flag. The top 5 all transferred to the A-Main and were Olson, Chad Hillier, Jason Solwold, Trevor Turnbull and Jesse Whitney.
Trey Starks led the first 14 laps of the 30-lap feature. Three yellow flags and one red flag slowed the first half of the race. On the lap 14 restart Shane Stewart who had started 8th moved around Starks on the high side and into the lead. Stewart led a caution free final 15 laps for the preliminary night win. Heading into night two Stewart heads the top six in points with Olson, Eric Fisher, two-time defending champion Travis Jacobson, Jason Solwold and Sam Hafertepe competing in the Saturday night A scramble to determine the top six spots.
In the NW Dwarf Car Challenge Kelly Gutches, Rj McGaughey and Doug McVae won heat races with Gutches picking up career win #127 in the 25 lap feature with a daring final lap, turn 3 pass for the win.
Saturday night racing includes the C, B and A Scrambles and the C, B and A Mains with the feature winner taking home the 2012 Bob’s Burgers and Brew 360 Nationals presented by Goodyear winners check of $10,000.00. Grandstands open at 5pm with racing after opening ceremonies at 7pm.
