MONROE, Washington — The ‘Northwest Center of Racing’ Evergreen Speedway hosts three days of activities this weekend starting on Friday August 3rd with Street Drags on the 1/8-mile drag strip at 7pm. On Saturday August 4th at 6pm the Annual Sprit Radio 105.3 Faith & Family Night takes place with the always fun ‘Faster Pastor’ race plus the Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stocks, Foster Press NASCAR Mini-Stocks, Buzz Inn Steakhouse Stinger 8’s and Interstate Batteries Hornets all in action. On Sunday August 5th the first ever Mexican Rodeo and Music Festival gets started at 1pm. The action never stops at the ‘Super Speedway of the West’.
The Street Stocks are back on the 3/8-mile paved oval after two races on the BIG 5/8-mile oval. More familiar ground for many of these racers, the 3/8-mile entices close and exciting racing. Steve Ptacek takes his 10-point lead into this week’s racing with Kenny Erickson in second and just 16-points back is Frank Cowgill. Each of these three is looking for their first Evergreen Speedway NASCAR championship, with six races remaining in 2012. Still very much in the championship picture are Tim Widener 4th, Jim Foti and Jeff Miller tied for 5th. These three have also not ever won a championship. It will be safe to say that there will be a first time champion at the end of the season on September 15.
Mini-Stock division point leader Jon Roberts will lead the pack back onto the 3/8 after a few weeks on the BIG track. Roberts enjoys a 40-point margin over Michael Fritz who won the last race. Third in points is Andrew Schukar who is 48-points behind Roberts. This division has six races remaining until their championship on September 15th, with lots of racing and lots of points available before the end of the season, any of the top three could win their first championship.
A fantastic battle is going on for the 2012 Stinger 8 championship with Jessica Gray leading Josh Young by 1-point. Ben Chandler is third in points with Joselyn LaFleur fourth. With just four races remaining and their championship scheduled for September 8th this Saturday is a very important race.
With just four races before the Hornet division championship race on September 8th the points chase is tightly contested between 15-year old Chad Fitzpatrick and Jaime Corbett with 10-points between them. Young Fitzpatrick is after his first championship at Evergreen after celebrating many during his quarter midget race days. Corbett is looking to follow up his 2010 Hornet championship.
Faith and Family night gets going with front gates opening at 4:30 followed by Fan Fest at 5pm with Christian Band RI3 in concert in conjunction with driver meet and greet. The racing gets underway at 6pm. For tickets and or information go to www.evergreenspeedway.com or call 360-805-6100.
