West Valley City, Utah-Rocky Mountain Raceways, an IHRA member track, hosted a full weekend of drag racing with the Nitro Madness drag event featuring Nitro Funny Cars, Summit SuperSeries and Quick & Top Juniors.
Friday, August 24 featured a Summit SuperSeries Test and Tune, Top & Quick Junior Race and a $2,000 Sunoco Shootout. IHRA Box racer #7632 Bill Matern (68’ Camaro) took the win over IHRA No Box racer #JX12 Chris Hall (70’ Camaro) for the cash prize.
Rocky Mountain Raceways and the Utah Animal Adoption Center welcomed Shirley Muldowney to the Nitro Madness event on Saturday, August 25 to help raise awareness for pet adoption in Utah. Fans were ecstatic as the legendary drag racer addressed the crowd for opening ceremonies and greeted fans during the race.
“We were proud to partner with the Utah Animal Adoption Center for this event. It was amazing to have racing legend Shirley Muldowney here with us. The shelter is such a worthy cause and to be able to help them generate funds just confirms why we do what we do,” says Mike Eames, Rocky Mountain Raceways General Manager. “The support from the local community, our racers, and the great RMR fans made it a special day.”
A Summit SuperSeries race on Sunday, August 26 concluded the action-packed weekend with wins from 2011 Top Sportsman Champion #6649 Ken Ratzloff (Top Sportsman,) #723 Tracy Holt (Top Dragster,) #9X29 Lance Parker (IHRA Box,) #JX12 Chris Hall (IHRA No Box) and #32 Matt Fredericks (Harley Davidson of Salt Lake MC/Snow.)
As we wind down the 2012 campaign, only 4 Summit SuperSeries races remain to determine the 2012 season champions.
IHRA drag racing will continue at Rocky Mountain Raceways on Friday, August 31 with the Street Legal Series. The next Summit SuperSeries race will be Friday, September 7. Rocky Mountain Raceways next major drag event will be Night of Fire on Saturday, September 29 featuring Jet Cars.
