TWIN FALLS, Idaho — Watkins Distributing (Budweiser) was once again happy to offer an evening of wild entertainment for the fans at MVS with Budweiser Boat races and Fireworks capping off the night. With just three races left, including this nights races, for the top two NASCAR Whelen All American Series divisions at MVS, each race is critical for those drivers contending for championships.
The Commercial Tire Super Stocks points battle has been a good one all season long with three time defending champion Kris McKean rising to the top. "The Legend" Casey Pehrson came into the evening in second place just one point ahead of fellow rookie of the year contender Hannah Newhouse who badly needed a win to get some momentum going into the final races of the season. She did not disappoint as she took early command of the race and never looked back. McKean raced Dan Pehrson hard finally making a pass for second where he finished. Pehrson's run in third was a good one, as he was celebrating his birthday!
The Brennan's Carpet Street Stocks have been dominated by the amazing run of Ernie Hall. Seemingly invincible he started the night well ahead of the competition in the championship battle but his winning ways were coming to a quick end. Billi Miles (The Lady Rebel) had new power under the hood and a gleam in her eye. She led flag to flag accepting the trophy as her husband and fellow competitor joined her in Victory Lane. Although Paul Browne pressed hard and tried several times to make a pass on Miles he was relegated to a second place finish with Ernie Hall managing a top three close behind.
Idaho Late Models raced Magic Valley's tough 1/3rd mile oval for the first time this season. Dennis Wurtz II was leading early and running hard but he had a mirror full of Dylan Caldwell soon enough. They battled through lap after lap. Finally after bumping and grinding enough times, Caldwell made his way to the front followed closely by Wurtz. Meanwhile Lee Hackney was feeling his way to the front and soon put Wurtz third as he lined up second. They finished racing strong and fast behind Caldwell in that order.
The Quale's Electronics Junior Stingers Hailey Douglas has proved to be a hard charging and ambitious race driver looking for her first championship. The 11 year old was ready to race against her fellow Junior Stingers, and after a scramble she was off after K.C. Sutton who had won his first heat race earlier. In only his second time out he was cool, calm and collected even as Douglas passed him. He stuck to his groove and came home second place behind Douglas leading Makayla Woll who was third.
The Magic Valley Pipe Hornets has seen a resurgence in the number of cars in the field and tonight was no exception. points leader Jeff Peck needed some good luck after his wreck last time out and he got it. After a mid race may lay he came out unscathed and racing in second place behind James Cole. Visiting MVS Sharlet Patero ran behind Peck for third. Cole was ecstatic in Victory Lane saying "My teeth are dried out" after not being able to wipe the smile from his face.
Boat Races have always been wacky and wild and the nights Budweiser Boat Race of Destruction was again a crowd favorite. The eventual winner "Hoffa-mobile" was the crowd favorite followed closely by "The Tank". The total destruction of boats was complete except for the sole remaining one chained to the "Hoffa-mobile".
Fireworks ended the evening to the crowds delight. As the last shell exploded and the fans cheered, they were reminded that the MVS will be off next Saturday due tot he Twin Falls County Fair. The next race is September 8th.
