New Modified Winners Lyons and Ryder at Stockton 99 Presented by Star Racing Supply

STOCKTON, California — Last Saturday night the Whelen All American Modifieds presented by Star Racing Supply saw some new winners as drivers headed into rounds 14 and 15 at Stockton 99 Speedway. Star Grand American Modified front runner, Nick Lyons, became was the driver to beat. Lyons posted the fastest lap in each practice session ending as the top qualifier. Lyons posted a fast lap of 14.429 seconds round the quarter mile oval followed by Nik Romano, Andy Vanderveer, Cody Hoover and Alan Ryder the fast five.

Romano, Vanderveer, Hoover and Ryder raced in the four lap trophy dash and Vanderveer took home the win. A full invert was chosen for the first 30 lap main event placing William Camera and Jessica Clark on the front row. Camera jumped to the early lead leaving Clark to battle with PJ Pedroncelli for second. Pedroncelli moved into the second spot by lap six as Vanderveer would follow him through for third. Pedroncelli and Vanderveer put on a good battle for second swapping positions. While they raced each other hard, Lyons worked his way up to fourth by lap eight. On lap 14, tough break for Pedroncelli as he suffered a DNF handing his second place run over to Vanderveer. By lap 22, Lyons was able to run down Vanderveer and make his move for second. As soon as Lyons took over the second spot he began to set his sights on the leader, Camera. Lyons ran out of laps to make his move for the lead as William Camera collected his first Whelen victory. Nick Lyons second, Alan Ryder third, Nik Romano fourth and Andy Vanderveer fifth.

In the second 30 lap feature a full invert from the first main event finishing order was drawn placing PJ Pedroncelli and Cody Hoover making is his first appearance on the front row to lead the field to the green flag. Pedroncelli took the lead on the start as Hoover raced with Vanderveer for second. Romano gained a few positions in the opening laps landing in the fourth spot by lap three. On lap 12, Hoover fell back to fifth as Ryder, Romano and Lyons freight trained passed the 21 car. With Pedroncelli out front running with the lead, Ryder began to run him down. By lap 22, Ryder stole the lead as Lyons followed him through for second. Pedroncelli was left to battle with Romano for third. On lap 23, an eager Lyons lost his second place run as he fell back into the field to sixth. Ryder had a close .725 second victory claiming his first 2012 Modified win. Followed by Pedroncelli, Romano, Lyons and Vanderveer the final five.
