STROEBEL & GATLIN ARE OFFICIALLY ELIGIBLE FOR THE ASA MEMBER TRACK NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — Shelby Stroebel and Lance Gatlin each wrapped up their 2012 track championships this past weekend, and are now officially eligible for the ASA Member Track National Championship. Both have cleared the requirement of winning their respective track title in order to become the fifth ASA Member Track National Champion.

Stroebel also capped off an undefeated season in the ASA Modified division at Meridian Speedway in Meridian, ID this past Saturday night. Stroebel won his 13th and 14th features of the season. Overall, it is his 16th straight win going back to the last season. He has a national average of 5.0763.

Gatlin finished sixth in the Limited Late Model feature at Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, VA on Saturday night. Ryan Stiltner won the feature event but didn’t gain enough points to challenge Gatlin for the championship in their season finale on September 15. Gatlin, who started the season by winning the first nine feature events, was able to secure the track championship with his finish. He has a national average of 4.6725.

Dustin Rumley made a big jump in the national standings after winning both of the Late Model feature events this past Friday night at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, NC. Those wins give him a 38-point lead over defending ASA Member Track National Champion Barry Beggarly and a 72-point lead over Rodney Cook in the track standings. Rumley now has a national average of 4.2593.

Mike Slone, along with his ASA Late Model competitors at Lebanon I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, MO, had the remnants of Hurricane Isaac go over the track this past weekend causing them to cancel their racing event this past Saturday night. They will be back in action this Saturday night. Slone has a national average of 4.0759.

Dennis Queen continues to hold the point lead in the Late Model Sportsman at Newport Motor Speedway in Newport, TN. They were also rained out this past weekend. Queen has a national average of 3.9873.

Michael Hale had a 14th place finish this past Monday night in the Maverik Modified division at Rocky Mountain Raceways in West Valley City, UT. He still holds a 169-point lead over Mark Ith Jr. in the track standings. Hale has a national average of 3.8030.

Mark Eswein will take his nine-point lead over Mark Mackesy into their season championship this Thursday night at State Park Speedway in Wausau, WI. A 75-lap Super Late Model feature will determine the 2012 track champion. Eswein has a national average of 3.4388.

Kyle Borden will be going for another ASA Modified feature win on Saturday, September 15 at Shasta Speedway in Anderson, CA. He has a national average of 1.3704.

“Congratulations to Shelby Stroebel and Lance Gatlin on their 2012 track championships,” Dennis Huth, ASA President said. “These two drivers have cleared a major hurdle to becoming the fifth ASA Member Track National Champion. There are great point battles brewing at all of our ASA Member Tracks. Fans will see some incredible competitive racing over the next few weeks.”

Speednetdirect.com, for the fifth year in a row, will tabulate the National Championship standings. Using a proprietary formula that creates an average based on wins, finishing positions, number of cars passed, car counts and events. The driver who wins their track championship and has the highest average over the other ASA Member Track champions will win the 2012 ASA Member Track National Championship.
