
DELTA, Utah — This weekend caps a memorable second season at Millard County Raceway in central Utah. After nine races it all comes down to one last weekend to claim championships and one last chance to capture a race win. The season started off with a bang, over 30 IMCA Modifieds converged on the newly sanctioned track for the opener back in April. The first annual Modified Madness at the Millard County Fair was a hit not only for racers but for the fans and community alike. The race brought racers from 6 different states and one Canadian Province. The season will be capped off with the well-known Wild West Modified Tour’s All-Star Race which will bring together the best dirt modified racers from throughout the Rocky Mountain Region. The WWMT brings and interesting format as Friday night will feature the qualifying races that will make up the 24 car field for the 50 lap main event held Saturday night.
Friday nights action will include the Pole Dash (those six already locked into the race) to set their starting position, the remaining positions will be filled by a series of heat races and B-Main events. The final chance to race their way into the race is by way of the LCQ races held on Saturday afternoon. Joining the WWMT on Friday will be the Western Outlaw Mini Sprint Series that always brings a very exciting race.
Saturday night will be the Championship Night for all the local classes including Mini Stocks, Thunder Trucks, and Super Stocks. With the IMCA sanctioning the Modified and Southern Sport Modified classes already crowned their champions with youngster Wyatt Howard of Price, Utah taking the Modified Championship and Travis Gray also of Price, Utah taking the Southern Sport Mod Championship.
Terance Pine holds the lead in the Mini Stock class with a lead of 24 points over Mark Merlen. In the Thunder Truck class Mark Pyle holds a lead of 30 points over Delta resident and rookie Colt Hill, each with one win under their belt for the season. The newly created Super Stock class has been a crowd favorite with close racing and fan engaging race format. Braiden Breaux of Mt Pleasant, and current track record holder, will look to close the gap between he and Scott Hardman, who holds a 17 point advantage.
Also slated to race on Saturday are the IMCA Southern Sport Modifieds as well as the IMCA Modifieds will also hold an LCQ that will complete the final 4 positions in the WWMT All-Star Race later that evening.
Drivers currently locked into the All-Star Race are Jeep Berry, Grand Junction, CO; Zane DeVilbiss Farmington, NM; Dan Fitzgerald, Las Vegas, NV; Cory Sample, Winnemucca, NV; Aaron Spangler, Dove Creek, CO; and Justen Yeagar, Green River, WY.
