ROSEVILLE, California — Utah's Michael Self and the Richard Childress Racing Driver Development supported Golden Gate Racing Team are headed back home to California this weekend to All American Speedway. It’s the second to last leg of the 2012 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Tour with the much anticipated Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 at the Placer County Fairgrounds track.
After a late pit stop and a rally to a 13th place finish last week in New Mexico that launched him into the top five positions of the point standings, Self is ready to contend for victory on the tight .333 mile banked oval where he has had much success in during his late model racing years. For Self, Roseville has not been the site of good fortune since advancing the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West but he is looking to change that this Saturday.
"Despite the luck we've had at Roseville in the past I'm excited to get back this weekend," said Self. "We've had a chance to test this car and it was really strong. After losing a tire at Sandia (New Mexico) and taking us out of a top three run I'm looking for a big rebound. Winning these final two races of the series is all I have on my mind coming into them."
Entering Saturday's event, Self is fifth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West point standings. He is 18 points behind former series champion Eric Holmes of Escalon. For the last two seasons, the Golden Gate Racing Team has qualified well in Roseville but just had misfortune come their way during the money race on the tight banked oval.
"It seems like Roseville is just the place where bad luck strikes this team," said team owner Jimi Z. "Michael and the crew have been doing a great job this season and come in to this race with more momentum that we have ever had. I'm looking for both the GGRT/RCR cars to have a top finish."
Self will be joined on the GGRT/RCR race card this weekend by Dallas Montes of Bakersfield. Sixteen year old Montes recently earned a 2nd place finish in his first NASCAR West start in New Mexico. Montes will be behind the wheel of the #31 Chevrolet owned by Patti Offenbach.
In addition to the action on the track, Richard Childress Racing and the Golden Gate Racing Team will be well represented in Roseville. Team associate, Randy Larsen of Larsen Race Products will be showcasing the new custom RCR Street Performance Camaro in the pre-race car show taking place. This special Camaro was custom built by RCR Street Performance for GGRT Team Owners Jim and Patti Offenbach and packs a punch of more than 700 horsepower. Larsen will be on hand during the car show to answer any questions about this beautiful machine and to assist anyone interested in custom ordering one of their own.
