BANKS, Oregon — The 2012 USRA Modified season at Sunset Speedway Park was a sensational one in which victory lane was made up of ten different winners in eleven point events. Despite not winning a race though Vancouver, Washington’s Chris Quinn was the high point man in the end of season standings. Quinn would earn the title by eighty-six total markers over second place.

“It was great to win a title for my car owner Danny Daniels at Sunset,” commented Chris Quinn, “we were definitely consistent all season long and there was some very tough competition all year.”

Quinn would earn a total six top five finishes in main event action which would be the most any driver would post in 2012. He would win three heat races, one trophy dash, and set fast time once. The title marks the first he has won at SSP but adds to two career championships at River City Speedway in St. Helens and five titles at the now closed Clatsop County Speedway that was located in Warrington.

“I couldn’t have done this without the help of Danny Daniels from Dancin Bare, Double J Tire Center, Bengerminze Vodka, Fast Undercan, Eric’s Frame Shop, and Perfection Automotive as well as my son Hayden who was my crew chief, Jessica Rose who filmed all the race for me, and Adam Kirby,” continued the champion.

Tigard’s Mark Reser finished the year second in the standings earning one main event win in the campaign. Reser was a finisher among the top five on three occasions and would win one heat race and a trophy dash.

Sonny Sayre of Vancouver, Washington was third in points when the final tally occurred. Sayre was victorious in one feature and earned three top five finishes. Also to his credit were two victories in heat race action.

Portland native Donald Schott wound up fourth in final USRA Modified points. Schott had three top five finishes and one heat race win for his season ending totals. Finishing up the top five in final points was Rayun McMichael from Vancouver, Washington who posted one top five finish in main event action.

The Sunset Speedway Park is located just west of the Portland metro area in Banks on the Sunset Highway. The venue is located in a gorgeous small town setting with rolling hills in the background and hosts weekly competition with Northwest Extreme Sprint Car Series, Northwest Wingless Tour, USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, 4-Bees, Pure Stocks, Women, and Tracers classes.
