IRWINDALE, CALIF. (November 11, 2001) NASCAR legend Hershel McGriff raced his No. 04 MBNA/Park Corp. Chevrolet Monte Carlo through a twenty-six car field for 250 laps of the NASCAR Winston West Jani-King 250, presented by NAPA and finished twelfth on the 1/2-mile oval track at Irwindale Speedway. Driving in his last event of the 2001 Winston West season for Orleans Racing, McGriff proved his competitiveness by racing in the top ten for most of Saturday night's event, and is looking forward to doing it again next year.
"This was one of our better shows," said crew chief Chuck Carruthers. "We had good pit stops and we kept on the lead lap."
Orleans Racing team owner Bill McAnally was pleased with McGriff's performance.
"Hershel drove hard tonight," he said. McAnally added, "This was a good year for us, a building one with MBNA. We'd like to do this again next season. Gaining from our experience from this year, next year could be exceptional."
McGriff has enjoyed support this season from MBNA America Bank, N.A., the official credit card issuer of NASCAR. MBNA is the world's largest independent credit card issuer with managed loans of $90.4 billion. MBNA has offered NASCAR fans credit cards featuring their favorite driver's photo since 1993.
The Jani-King 250 presented by NAPA will be televised on a tape-delay basis on Fox Sports NET. For more information about Orleans Racing and Hershel McGriff, visit our website at www.hershel-mcgriff.com.![]()
