November 29, 2001 (Valencia, Calif.) - Sean Woodside, 2001 champion in Irwindale Speedway's Super Late Model division, recognizes that this year's competitors in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series program made his run for the top spot a challenge every Saturday night.
Woodside clinched the championship in the September 8th event at Irwindale, culminating a season in which he ran door-to-door in each week with fellow competitors Nathan Wulff, Tommy Fry, David Gilliland and Brent Reynolds, who finished the year in second through fifth place, as well as all the series regulars.
Even though the competition was tough, the camaraderie among the Super Late Model teams, as well as the teams from the other divisions at Irwindale, made 2001 a memorable year for the team.
"These guys were a tough bunch this year," Woodside said of his competition. "We worked hard to get this championship, but it was also a lot of fun. We wanted to say thanks to everyone, since we won't see them at the banquet this Saturday night."
Due to a number of scheduling conflicts, Woodside and the team will be unable to attend Irwindale Speedway's awards banquet this Saturday evening.
In addition to winning Irwindale's Super Late Model championship, Woodside and the team finished the 2001 Winston West season in sixth place in the point standings, with five-top five and eight top-ten finishes, an impressive showing for a team just completing its first full season in the series.
