
The Mechanix Wear Speed Truck Challenge announces an exciting racing schedule for 2002 to include “LA’s ½ Mile Super Speedway” at Irwindale Speedway, Cajon Speedway near San Diego known as the “Fastest Short Track in the West”, Las Vegas Motors Speedway’s “Bullring” and the 3.1 mile road course at Buttonwillow Raceway Park.
The televised action on FOX Sports Net starts March 2nd, 2002 at the 3.1 mile road course at Buttowillow Raceway Park near Bakersfield, with the first appearance ever on the huge road course for the Speed Truck Challenge and a second event near the end of the season on October 12th. The Speed Trucks know road course racing from competing in the San Diego Grand Prix, races at Willow Springs International, Firebird International Raceway and Phoenix International Raceway.
March 16th and 30th sees the Speed Trucks return to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway “Bullring”, representing the first two of six events in 2002 and all of the races are 100 lap events except for the season finale on November 2nd where the first ever 210 lap race with two competition yellows at lap 70 and 140 that may decide the 2002 series Championship and Rookie of the Year, all on a special two hour FOX Sports Net broadcast.
Irwindale Speedway’s very fast, high banked half mile oval presents the Mechanix Wear Speed Truck Challenge on April 13th for the first of four races broadcast on FOX Sports Net. The Speed Trucks have raced at Irwindale Speedway every year since its opening, but now will televise the races from there. Cajon Speedway picks up the Speed Trucks on May 4th with the first of five races on the “Fastest Short Track in the West” and continues with the FOX Sports Net broadcast filmed from the San Diego area.
In 2002 Troy Decuir of Moreno Valley will race very hard to defend his 2001 Championship in the 17 race schedule. Dan Digiacomo, the 2001 Rookie of the Year has set his goal at the 2002 Championship as well, but will face fierce competition from the 1999, 2000 and 2001 Champions of Ron Peterson, Darren Young and Troy Decuir, respectively. And the 1998 and 2000 Rookie of the Year winners of Richard Franz and Randy Brown can never be counted out as well as numerous other Championship seeking drivers that finished in the 2001 “Top 10" category like Jeff Davis, Dave Hartsook, Scott Saunders, Andy Bargaehr and Jimmy Perry.
