"We've been chasing the track ever since we got here, but that lap was by far our fastest by ourselves. We were barely off the throttle at both ends of the track. We were a little bit tight off. I thought we may run faster than that, but we haven't been able to find much speed in the truck for qualifying. It feels like I've said that about 10 times this year, but this truck is more of a truck that we run at the flat tracks. This is what we're down to using, and I knew it wouldn't qualify fast, but I think it will really race well because it has a lot of downforce."
THIS IS A SHORT RACE FOR THE SIZE OF THE TRACK. IS THAT SOMETHING YOU'RE WORRYING ABOUT?
"It's a short race, but I think it's plenty long enough for the truck series. Anytime you get in a situation where you take on fuel once or twice or tires once or twice, I think that's plenty long enough. I think there's plenty of time for a guy who has had a bad qualifying run to work his way to the front."
TIM WOODS-99-Eldon Ford F-150 (Qualified 33rd)
THIS WAS AN UNEXPECTED TURN OF EVENTS TODAY.
"I'm just looking forward to the challenge. This is the opportunity of a lifetime. I've got to thank Mr. Roush, Ford and Eldon for giving me this unexpected opportunity. Even though I wasn't sure it was coming, you take what you can when it comes your way."
YOU DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A CHANCE TO PRACTICE THE TRUCK. HOW DIFFICULT WAS IT TO STEP IN IT FOR QUALIFYING?
"I just wanted to get a comfortable lap in and get kinda comfortable with the truck. I didn't want to go out on the first lap and tear up one of Mr. Roush's trucks, so we didn't do that. We got a comfortable lap in, but we have to pick it up some in Happy Hour."
WHAT IS YOUR GOAL THIS WEEKEND?
"This is a really fast track and if we can finish on the lead lap and in the top 15, that would be a great accomplishment for me because I've never raced a truck on a superspeedway of this size before, especially with no testing in the truck."
YOU WERE STRUGGLING IN THE NO. 54 TRUCK, SO HOW DOES THIS CHANGE YOUR MINDSET?
"This is a big confidence boost. You saw these Roush trucks win at Phoenix, and Roush won the big three there, so that instills a lot of confidence in me because I know that I have a good supporting cast."
JON WOOD-50-Eldon Ford F-150 (Qualified 9th)
"The track just got tight. We were already snug in practice this morning and I think that's what hurt us the most. We have a good race package, I'm sure, and we'll be fast, but it's kinda disappointing to fall from second to ninth."
YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE HERE IN THE WINSTON WEST SERIES. WILL THAT HELP YOU TOMORROW?
"In the Winston West race, we qualified second and had a little trouble in the pits and went to last, came back to take the lead, went back again, and came back and led it again. I know what it takes to get up there, but it's going to take some time."
THIS WAS YOUR FIRST TRUCK QUALIFYING SESSION WHERE YOU ONLY WERE ALLOWED ONE LAP OF QUALIFYING.
"That's a little different, too. It didn't throw off my rhythm, but it makes it tougher to hit your marks."
RICK CRAWFORD-14-Milwaukee Electric Tool Ford F-150 (Qualified 3rd)
"That's not what we wanted; I was trying to win the pole. This is seventh game of the World Series for the Milwaukee Electric Tool race team. We threw every pitch we could because we wanted the pole today. We brought a good truck here and everybody did a good job getting it ready. This 10th anniversary tour has been great; this is the best year that we've had."
YOU QUALIFIED RIGHT AFTER A TRUCK BLEW ITS MOTOR. DID THAT HURT YOUR CONCENTRATION?
"No, but when you're mind is set on running pretty much flat, it's a 180-mph race track here, and when you have a problem in front of you, it throws up your guard for concern. I'm not going to make any excuses, we're just third quick."
THE TRUCKS WERE ONLY GIVEN ONE LAP OF QUALIFYING TODAY. DOES THAT MAKE IT TOUGHER ON THE DRIVER?
"When you do two laps, you give it all you have on the first lap and then try to give it some more on the second lap. Right here, you try to give it all you've got on the first lap."
Kyle Busch, the 16-year-old Las Vegas native, was removed from the No. 99 Roush Racing entry prior to qualifying for Saturday's Auto Club 200 due to a conflict with a California Speedway sponsor. Tim Woods, who was scheduled to pilot the No. 54 Ford, replaced Busch, who practiced the truck on Thursday and Friday. Woods took the wheel of the No. 99 Ford moments before qualifying and will start in 33rd position after taking the first provisional.

"It's out of my control, what happened today. It's just an unfortunate thing, but we're going for next year. We planned on running seven races this year, but it looks like we'll only be running in six."
HOW DOES THIS CHANGE YOUR OUTLOOK OF THE SEASON?
"I'd say that this kills Kyle Busch's pride, his parents' pride, as well as the whole crew; they were all looking forward to it. We were on the top of the sheets in practice and we were looking forward to qualifying, and right before we went out, we got turned down. So, we're going to Daytona right now, and looking towards next season."

"Kyle met all of the NASCAR and Craftsman requirements to run this event, and because of circumstances outside of NASCAR's control and Roush Racing's control, he's not going to be able to run here. It's something that can't be resolved today and it's going to take longer, so we had to put somebody else in the car."
WHEN WERE YOU AWARE THAT THERE COULD BE A PROBLEM?
"It was something that we weren't aware of until this morning. We didn't come here anticipating any problems, but like I said, they are circumstances outside of the confines of the garage."
THE NO. 99 TRUCK WAS THE FASTEST IN PRACTICE THIS MORNING. WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS WITH A DIFFERENT DRIVER?
"It's unfortunate, but if Tim does a good job, he got thrown into a situation where he's in a seat that is too small and he's never driven a lap in the truck before qualifying, to do as well as he did, it's credible what he did. It's important for us to go work with him and try to get him as comfortable as we can as go out and do it in Happy Hour."
WHAT IS TIM'S AFFILIATION WITH ROUSH RACING?
"Tim is somebody that we've been watching for a long time and we've been trying to help him. We've been helping him with his Winston West program and when we had no other choice but to remove Kyle form the vehicle, we went over and asked Tim if he would rather drive our truck than his. He was already here trying to qualify his truck, and he jumped at the opportunity to drive the 99 and help us with Eldon and get that truck in the show."
