Two Time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion Ron Hornaday hit the Daytona International Speedway testing in a Hendrick Motorsports Silverado Craftsman Truck, with the #24 on the side. “This is more fun than I even remember it being. I haven't had this much fun in a long time.” Ron said while testing at Daytona.

Ron holds the record of the most wins in the Craftsman Truck series with 25, earned while battling inaugural season champ Mike Skinner, and last years champ. Jack Sprague. Ron's battles with Hendrick Motorsports driver Jack Sprague were legendary through the first five years of the series. Some are calling it "Unbelievable", but most are just saying "That's Racin" ! “We thought it would be good for the fans, with what Jack and I have done in the past in the truck series. This was actually one of Ricky Hendrick’s trucks and Rick took it out of their museum and then we put on the #24. It is so ironic, me jumping in a truck with the # 24 on it.”

Ron first took the truck out in the p.m. practice session and ran 2nd quick of the day with a lap time of 48.934 @ 183.921 m.p.h. leaving all eyes open, only for Ron and crew to return on Saturday and run 48.901 @ 184.045 m.p.h. in the a.m. session and a 48.734 @ 184.676 m.p.h. in the p.m. session, all 2nd quick times on the charts, not to mention bettering their times each session. The crew being lead by Doug Richert, who worked with Ron at DEI, back in 1995. "It's awesome working with Doug again, and the support that Rick Hendrick and his team has shown me is just unbelievable." Ron stated this week-end in Daytona. “Rick's got the trucks and a lot of motors, so I’m sure if someone is out there with some money I could talk Rick into it, but right now we haven’t even spoke about. Right now I just want to come here and do the best job we can for the whole Hendrick organization."
