WINSTON CUP, BUSCH SERIES STARS TO APPEAR AT FOURTH ANNUAL SPEEDWAY CHILDREN'S CHARITIES

LAS VEGAS -- The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities will present its fourth annual NASCAR Driver Auction on Thursday, Feb. 28 at Sam's Town Live!, inside Sam's Town Hotel and Gambling Hall in Las Vegas.

To date, 17 NASCAR Winston Cup Series and Busch Series drivers have agreed to participate in the auction. The NASCAR Winston Cup Series will be represented by 1989 champion Rusty Wallace, Robby Gordon, Brett Bodine, Jeff Green and Shawna Robinson. NASCAR Busch Series participants include Jason Keller, Hank Parker Jr., Brian Vickers, Scott Riggs, 1994 champion David Green, Jamie McMurray, Jeff Purvis, Christian Elder, Bobby Hamilton Jr., Casey Mears, Scott Wimmer, Dion Ciccarelli.

Fans are invited to bid on a chance to ride in a convertible with their favorite Winston Cup driver during the driver introductions for the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 on Sunday, March 3. Winning bidders on Busch Series competitors will meet their drivers prior to the start of the Sam's Town 300 on Saturday, March 2.

The evening's activities also will include a silent auction for NASCAR collectibles donated by race teams and sponsors. Silent auction items include items autographed by Jeff Gordon, a Richard Petty Driving Experience gift certificate, a NesQuik pit crew uniform shirt, two First Class in-system round trip National Airlines tickets, concert tickets, an autographed 2002 Winston No Bull 5 poster, an opportunity to work as a Winston Cup photographer's assistant at the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 on March 4, an autographed USAF Thunderbirds poster and two autographed leather golf bags.

Joining the drivers are rising country star Chris Chitsey and the USAF Thunderbirds. Chitsey will perform a concert preceding the auction, and the Thunderbirds will be on hand, posing for photos and signing autographs.

Doors open for the event at 4:30 p.m. The concert begins at 5:30 p.m. and the Driver Auction starts at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $35 and are available by calling the Sam's Town box office at (888) 464-2468 or online at Tickets.com.

"Last year's auction was a tremendous success, and we look forward to an even bigger turnout in 2002," said Dan Stark, chairman of the Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities. "This event is so important as a launching pad for our year-long fundraising efforts. We sincerely appreciate the drivers taking time out from their busy schedules to participate and of course the fans who support this worthy cause."

Sam's Town Hotel & Gambling Hall is located at 5111 Boulder Highway, at Flamingo. The UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 and the Sam's Town 300 take place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Speedway Children's Charities is a non-profit foundation based in Charlotte, N.C. It distributes funds to charities and foundations providing medical, emotional and social services to children in need. Founded in 1984 by O. Bruton Smith, chief executive officer of Speedway Motorsports, Inc., Speedway Children's Charities has grown into a national foundation with chapters located at each of the six publicly owned Speedway Motorsports, Inc., facilities. The organization has distributed more than $7 million since its inception.
