FINAL LAYER OF ASPHALT COMPLETED ON NEW SEARS POINT KARTING CENTER

SONOMA, Calif. -- Crews have completed the final layer of asphalt on the new Sears Point Karting Center kart track, and a select group of drivers are scheduled to test the course early next week.

The Center is scheduled to open in early March, but drivers will test the surface of the new three-quarter mile, 16-turn course on Monday, February 18, to ensure that the pavement holds up to race speeds. Among those racing the first laps on the course will be instructors from the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School, including American Le Mans Series competitors Tyler McQuarrie and Dave McEntee. The drivers will run laps at full speed.

The Sears Point Karting Center will be operated by Jim Russell International Karting and will feature a kart track, pro shop and kart storage. The Karting Center will open to the public in March with a variety of karting programs, testing schedules and open days. The Jim Russell School has been based at Sears Point Raceway since 1996.

The newly designed Center is expected to one of the top three karting facilities in the country. The 28-foot wide track is designed to meet CIK/FIA standards for safety and performance, which makes it suitable to host national and international karting events.
