Detroit — There’s no better way to overcome adversity than to make a new start, which is exactly what Pamela Anderson is counting on as she teams up with PETA to donate bags full of her Pamela line of cosmetics to shelters for abused and battered women nationwide, including the Interim House in Detroit. Anderson knows that women at these shelters are struggling to put their lives back together, which means they’ll soon be job-hunting, and she wants them to feel and look their very best.

Anderson is a vocal opponent of any form of abuse. When the former Baywatch and V.I.P. star held the debut sale of her cruelty-free Pamela line in 1999, the proceeds went to PETA, which presented her with its Humanitarian of the Year Award in 1999 for her outstanding efforts to improve the plight of animals. Anderson continues to be a vocal presence in many of PETA’s campaigns.

Some cosmetics companies still rely on archaic animal tests in which rabbits and other animals are blinded, burned, and poisoned. Anderson is strongly opposed to animal testing.

"Every woman wants to be beautiful, but there’s nothing pretty about animal tests," says Anderson. "Fortunately, the choice between kindness and cruelty is easy. More than 550 makers of cosmetics refuse to test their products on animals."

PETA’s Shopping Guide for Caring Consumers, a booklet listing companies that do not test products on animals, can be ordered at PETAcatalog.com.
