FONTANA, Calif. – Eric Norris nabbed his second Bud Pole Award in three events with a fast-lap in NASCAR Winston West Series qualifying at California Speedway on Thursday.

Norris, who circled the two-mile superspeedway at 181.333 mph, will lead the field to the green flag for Saturday’s Pontiac WideTrack Grand Prix 200.

The Dana Point, Calif., competitor felt he had the car to beat in this event a year ago – leading from lap 47 to 72. His chance for victory ended, however, when he had to make a green-flag pit stop for fuel late in the race.

Turning in the second fastest time in Thursday’s qualifying was series rookie Scott Lynch, while Austin Cameron was third-fastest. Qualifying for the fourth spot on the grid was Kevin Richards, with Greg Pursley fifth.
