BRANDON MILLER WINS “CINTAS 50”; JOSH HORN IS THREE STRAIGHT IN STREET STOCKS

Bakersfield, Calif. -– Brandon Miller had a good night at Mesa Marin Raceway. He posted fast time of 18.76, then raced to his first win in 2002 in the “Cintas 50.” First Miller had to get past Kevin and Jason Small, but once he got the lead nobody could catch him. The battle was for 2nd between Mike Duncan and Jason Small. With less than fifteen laps to go, Duncan was pressing Small hard for position. It took Duncan 8 more laps before he could make the pass stick. The final order was Miller, Duncan who maintained his point lead, Barry Bradshaw was 3rd followed by Kevin Small and Rick Grissom in 4th and 5th.

In the NASCAR Street Stocks Paul Menees jumped out to an early start and held off 2001 Champion Josh Horn until he suddenly made the move to the pits. Horn took over the lead and won his 3rd main event in a row. Behind him Bryan Neufeld, Anthony Gillespie, Mike Brilhante, David Hutchins, and Jeff Harlow were going 2-3-sometimes 4-wide for their 25-lap finish positions. The Kern River Valley boys Gillespie and Brilhante finished 2nd and 3rd followed by Hutchins and Harlow.

It was a wild ride, but a yellow-free 12 laps for the Auto Club 911 Race For Youth Series. Bakersfield Fire Jim Lucas jumped out ahead of Sheriff Bart Camps for an early lead that he held for the entire event. Meanwhile, Ken Hammer of the Superintendent of Schools and District Attorney Jim Ray challenged each other for 2nd place. Hammer would pass then Ray would come back and then they would do it again. Ray finally took 2nd followed by BPD Officer Greg Bender who had been mixing it up trying to get around Hammer and Kern County Fire’s Chris Cagle. Hammer took 4th and Cagle 5th.

The Extreme Racing League Stunt Driver Challenge entertained the Cintas crowd with a wild obstacle course.

Next week the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Late Models are back along with Super TT Motorcycles, 911s and the first race of the season for the ChevronTexaco High School Series. The principals or superintendents are racing with the students acting as pit crew. Races begin at 7:30. General Admission is $9 with Kids 12 and under free. .####
