Snohomish WA (May 22, 2002) Travis Powell, Raybestos Brakes Northwest Tour Rookie of the year contender, announced today that his team, Powell Motorsports, will be starting two cars in the "Cellular One 125" NWT event at Wenatchee Valley Super Oval May 25, 2002. Travis, who is only 2 points behind Kelly Mann for the Rookie crown, will start in the # 87, 2002 Monte Carlo and first time NWT driver Bill Shaw of East Wenatchee will start in the #07 Pontiac Grand Prix.

The team has been enthusiastically preparing both cars. Travis said, "We are ready for this new venture. This is a family oriented organization and everyone is involved. We all get our hands dirty and work together as a unit and above all we have fun."

Travis and Bill are not only great competitors they are also great friends. They have raced together in other series and no matter who finishes ahead of whom, each is genuinely happy for the other. Bill (a.k.a. Joe Powell), who's been involved in racing for over 26 years, has driven everything from Formula Fords on road courses, rally cars in the wilds of Canada, Sprints on the dirt tracks of Texas to all levels of local Stock Car Racing. This will be his first foray in the NW Tour and he will be running a limited schedule this year.
