Madera -- Madera Speedway welcomes back the United States Auto Club and their new Regional Sprint Car series this Saturday June 8th. Also running with the Regional Sprint Car series will be the SRL MAAX Lites - CAM Supermodifieds, the Toyota Modifieds and for the first time this season, the Pro 4 series.
The SRL MAAX Lites - CAM Supermodifieds will have a new driver to contend with this weekend. Chad Ede, a former offensive lineman on the 2000 Fresno State Football team, which is the same team that won the WAC championship is driving in his first ever SRL Lites event.
Ede has racing in his blood as his father, Fred Ede, is the former owner of a championship winning USAC Silver Crown car that was piloted by Winston Cup champion Jeff Gordon and Winston Cup rookie Ryan Newman.
Currently, Darrell Herzog leads the points with three victories. 2001 CAM champion Jim Tartaglia sits in second place, and David Tuey sits third in the points.
Don Smith leads the way in the Toyota Modified division. This season, he has two victories, two dash wins and two heat race wins. Last season's runner up, Doug Bridger is in second place followed by Mike Burgess in third.
The Pro 4 series makes its Madera Speedway debut for this season this weekend. These cars are similar to a Late Model, but smaller. They also are powered by a four cylinder engine rather then a V8.
Ticket prices for this weekend's event are as follows: $12.00 general admission, $6.00 for children 6-12 years old, $30.00 for a family pass that is good for two general and two children, and as always children five and under are free.
