The NWSST, WMRA, NW Legends and Bandoleros, Outlaw Compacts and the Golden Wheels kept the crowd busy and interested all night Saturday the 15th. There was a great crowd brought in by all these traveling clubs.
The NWSST had 24 cars come in the back gate. Larry Gaylord had to go home early because he wrecked in practice so that left 23 cars to time in. Willy Thom was the top qualifier with a 16.21. Pat Schwartzkopf won the dash over Thom, Mike Aubrey and Brad Stanwood. Mike Crase scored the C heat win with Susan Nelson and Herb Thomas in chase. The B heat went to Audra Jean. Crossing after her was Dave Cannon and Jay Estes. Dustin Wilkinson was the winner of the A heat but Brian Overturf and Schwartzkopf were close behind. Chris Schlaht blew his motor in the A heat race so he was unable to start the main event. Brad Stanwood got out to the lead quickly in the main event and by lap seven was already putting cars a lap down. Stanwood ran great until he cut a tire down and on lap 24, Pat Schwartzkopf got around him and Stanwood began to fall back. The crowd was cheering and Schwartzkopf fans were prepared for another victory when suddenly the car stopped running on lap 28. Confusion was in the air as there were so many lapped cars between the leader and second that no one knew exactly who was the leader now. When Schwartzkopf was leading, he had lapped KC Valentine, Mike Aubrey and Jay Estes. Due to him leaving and Wilkinson being so many cars back, the all got their lap back and were on the lead lap. Schwartzkopf limped his car as far as he could but could not complete the last lap. This left Dustin Wilkinson to win again at South Sound. Second was Curt Nusom with Brian Overturf, Valentine and Stanwood in tow.
The WMRA came back to the 3/8th mile oval after a five year hiatus with 15 cars. Ken Ferris was the fastest qualifier with a 13.93. Rick Kraft and Nick Seidelman each took a dash win. The first heat race went to Mike Gardner followed by Nick Seidelman and Cam McClain. The second heat was took by Travis Johnson with Rick Moss and Jeff Bird chasing. Darrin Linder won the main event with Rick Moss, Ken Ferris, Rick Kraft and Brad Curtis rounding out the top five.
For the Outlaw Compacts, Jim Milligan Jr. timed in with the fast time of 16.71. Dale Roberts kept his reign as trophy dash king by winning again. Sonny Kreger won the A heat race with Pete Brady and Roberts in tow. Randy Butler captured the flag for the B heat over Matt Stickler and Wayne Dillon. Eric Kaas started on the inside of the second row and took advantage of it by jumping to the lead early. After only three laps, a caution was thrown for debris. During the caution Dale Roberts and Wayne Dillon exited the track. Before the green flew, Dillon was back but Roberts was no where to be seen. Four more laps were raced until the second yellow on lap seven for Derek Sonnenberg slowing, he then took his car off the track. Sonnenberg and Roberts both came back a few laps later. Eric Kaas won the main with Randy Butler in second. Bob Treen took third and fourth went to Sonny Kreger.
The NW Legends put on a great show with 26 cars timing in and starting the mains. Duane Swanson was the fastest qualifier with a 16.47. Winning the Semi-Pro dash was Rick McNeill, the Pro dash went to Tony Williamson and the Master dash was took by Dennis Fromm. The Semi-Pro heats were won by McNeill and Jeff Harris. The Master/Pro heats were won by Duane Swanson and Garrett Haxby. Louis Grant got out to a quick lead of the Semi-Pro main. On lap four, Jeff Harris and Joe Martin got together and Harris was flagged for the incident. On lap eight, as Rick McNeill was going for the lead, he and Louis Grant got tangled and they both spun for a yellow. Grant had to take his car off the track. The new leader was Rob Hawton. Hawton led all the way to the end to win. In second was Aaron Bellanca. Rich Spooner took the lead of the Master/Pro main from the start and never looked back. No yellows were thrown and the race went quickly. Spooner won with Duane Swanson, Billy Weber, and Garrett Haxby in tow.
The Bandoleros were a lot of fun to watch as they zipped around the track. Craig Derksen timed in with a 17.24 to be the fastest. Andrew Caddell won the dash and the heat race. Derksen was the main winner, keeping his streak alive. Bradley Shaw was second with Mitchel Ferderer in third and Caddell in fourth. Fifth was Rudlidge Boykin followed by Justin Jackson and Justin Glave. The Golden Wheels put on a great exhibition for the crowd. Bob McMurtry won the dash and the heat race. Dave Imrie led the main to the finish. Terry Howden was second and McMurtry was third.
