BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --Sammy Potashnick is ready to climb back into the driver's seat after recovering from a head injury he suffered as a result of an accident at a NASCAR Late Model Series race at Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif., last month.
Afflicted with a mild concussion from the accident, Potashnick was immediately taken to the Kern Medical Center Emergency Room where it was discovered that there was a small contusion to the brain (a minor bruise to the brain which retains a small amount of blood and causes severe head aches). Potashnick was kept in the hospital for several days for a Neurologist and Neurological Surgeon to monitor his progress. It was determined that the contusion would heal with a few weeks rest. It did just that and Potashnick was cleared to race last week after his final check up with the Neuro Surgeon.
Potashnick is feeling good and looking forward to the upcoming race weekend. He will enter the NASCAR Winston West Series Coors Light 200 at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash., on Saturday, June 29. Potashnick finished 2nd place at Evergreen Speedway in 2000, less than a half car's length out of the win. The upcoming race at Monroe will mark Potashnick's 2nd Winston West start of the season. Potashnick notched a 2nd place finish at Phoenix International Raceway earlier this year.
With Crew Chief duties being fulfilled by Chris Diederich for Monroe, Potashnick and the No. 65
team are very optimistic. Diederich helped take Potashnick to his first Winston West victory at
Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City in September of 2001.![]()
