LAKEPORT, Calif. -- The 14TH annual "Kelseyville Lumber Deake Lyndall Memorial" auto race will be held this Friday and Saturday nights at the Lakeport Speedway. This popular Lake County event is a tribute that commemorates two past racers of the Northern California Racing Association, Deake Lyndall Sr. and his son Deake Lyndall Jr. who were both killed in an airplane crash in May of 1989.

The event begins with practice and first round qualifying on Friday, July 5 and concludes with heat races, trophy dashes and main events on Saturday, July 6th.

The Bay Cities Racing Association midgets will headline the festivities with the winner of their 30 lap main event receiving $1000. This will be the only time the midgets will be competing at Lakeport this season. Defending United States Auto Club (USAC) Western States Sprint Car Champion, Tony Hunt of Sacramento, will he on hand to pilot the Bob Rosen midget. Hunt is currently tied for the 2002 USAC title. Coming down from the state of Washington to run with the BCRA boys will be 19 year old Travis Johnson of Tacoma.

The NCRA modified purse has also been boosted to $100 to win, and past Roseburg (Oregon) Speedway champion Willie Thompson is coming down to try to take the winner’s share back to Oregon. Thompson was the winner of the 1999 October Classic.

The Airport Auto Brokers Late Models will also be competing in the five-division weekend with the winner of the 40 lap feature taking home $700. The mini stock and Konocti Harbor Resort and Spa bomber division’s purses have also been increased with the mini stocks running for $300 to win and the bombers competing for $200. The bomber division normally runs for trophies only. All purse increases are compliments of the Lyndall family of Kelseyville.

Spectator gates open at 5:00 pm on Saturday with racing at 7:00 pm. General admission is $10 with children (6-11) at $5.00. For further information call the speedway at 707-274-2844. ####
