ELMORE, MILLER AND HORN SCORE MAIN EVENT WINS

BAKERSFIELD, California --Mesa Marin Raceway – Gary Elmore picked up his 2nd NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Late Model Main Event win of the season closing the points gap on leader Gene Fife. Without a main event win Fife continues to remain 19 points ahead of Elmore in the 2002 championship standings. Kevin James led the Late Model fifty lapper until the 23rd lap when Elmore was able to get by and hold the lead to the checkers. Fife finished 2nd followed by James, Bobby Aldridge and Danny Collins.

Brandon Miller won his 4th main event of the season in the NASCAR Super Late Model “True Value 50” and overtook the points lead from Mike Duncan by one point. Miller’s strongest challenge came from Craig Raudman, who finished 2nd followed by Kevin Vernon.

In the NASCAR Street Stocks it looked like it might be Shane Thomas’ night until the caution came out late in the 25-lap main event and points leader Josh Horn was able to take the lead when Thomas went high in turn 4. Thomas picked up a 2nd place followed by Anthony Gillespie, Darren Reed, and Brian Neufeld.

Bob Lerude of the Kern County Park Rangers were able to get past Bakersfield Fire Dept.’s Fred Estrada late in the Auto Club 911 Race For Youth Series main event to pick up their 3rd win of the season. As battled up front BPD’s Keith VanDam struggled to stay ahead of Marion Collins, who decided to have a little fun in the CHP #5. VanDam finished 3rd followed by Joe Mehciz of the K.C. Fire Dept and Bob Miller of the DA’s office.

Andy Troxell of North High picked up their first win of the season by staying out of trouble as both Porterville teams – Chris Wells of Porterville High and Arturo Taguada of Monache – dueled each other for their own winner’s circle appearance. Porterville ended up with engine problems and fell back. On lap 10 Troxell and Dave Stafford of Mojave pressured Monache for the lead and Monache went too high and lost it. North got by for 1st followed by Jose Vera of Tehachapi, Taguada, Mojave, Kern Valley and Delano.

Next week the Ultra Wheels Super Trucks, SRL MaaxLites Cam SuperModifieds, Super TT Motorcycles, AutoClub 911 Race for Youth and ChevronTexaco High School Series presented by Jim Burke Ford will race at 7:30. General Admission is $9 and Kids 12 and under are free.
