The landscape of the Featherlite Southwest Tour points standings has a very different look these days. With Doug McCoun finishing 7th in the Altamont race on 7-20-02 he has moved into 3rd in points. Doug hovered in the top 10 all night and had a good mid-race battle with current points leader Eddy McKean for about 40 laps. As the race neared the 100 lap mark Doug started to slowly move towards the front running as high as 6th place with about 40 laps to go when he developed a slow leak in the right front tire from puncture.
Doug managed to finish the race in 7th place even with the slowly leaking tire. This marks the 5th top 10 finish in the last 6 races showing that Doug and the team have the consistency back that was missing last year. Doug and the team are really looking forward to an excellent finish at the upcoming SWT race at Madera. Madera is considered to be Doug's home track where he is always one of the crowd favorites. Also in the line up for Madera will be 2 of Doug's younger brothers, Bob McCoun in the #43 car and Jeff McCoun in the #54. All 3 run very well at this track so we can all look forward to a great show.
